Now, regarding Maria, I’ll wait three days for her answer.

Until then, let’s see if we can find out more about the man who ambushed them.

 When the Clock Strikes Twelve

 Jayce

“Ares isn’t coming, huh?” I ask, keeping my voice flat.

Theo shakes his head. “What the hell is going on with you two?”

“Do I need to mediate between you two?” Renji asks.

I shrug. “I don’t know, I’ll try to talk to him myself, but whatever I say stays between us then.”

 “Sure thing.” Carter nods.

We’re all sitting in an empty classroom. I’m sitting on the desk. Theo is leaning against a table, Renji is rocking on a chair, and Carter is standing next to Renji, arms crossed.

“Alright, I think there’s someone in this Academy who may be a spy,” I begin, before quickly filling them in on what happened with Matherson.

There’s silence after I’m done filling them in, but they’re all in agreement.

“That does sound too convenient to be coincidental,” Renji muses.

“It does, but there are five- well, four of us, to have extra pairs of eyes to keep an eye on those around us,” Carter says quietly. “Maybe ask the rest of those we can trust, too: Artemis, Asher, Tatum, Sienna, Alessandra, Heaven, and any of our friends we trust with no doubts.”

“A good point, yeah, I think we should. If you see any of them before me, can you let them know? Just make sure they keep it to themselves. As for Ares, I’ll have a word with him myself.”

 “Yeah, please do.” Theo sighs.

“Are you sure? I could do it?” Renji offers.

I shake my head. “No, I need to do this before things get worse.”

He nods in understanding before Theo leans forward.

 “So… Sienna Rossi, huh?”

I cock a brow. “What does that mean? I already told you at Azura’s place.”

Theo snickers as the other two smirk. “Sure, but we didn’t really get to talk. Isn’t it convenient that it’s her eighteenth birthday soon, like literally tomorrow? Did you wait like a good boy for her?”

I cock a brow. “She’s only one and a half years younger than me. Quit it.”

“Don’t be a buzzkill. How long have you liked her?” Carter asks.

Renji chuckles. “For waaaay, waaaay too long,” he says exaggeratedly. I cast him a scathing glare, but he only laughs more. “He hated when she talked to me, didn’t you?”

 “Fuck off, you prick.”

All three of them snicker at my expense, but really, I don’t mind.

“So, have you got her a birthday present?” Carter asks.

“Good question. What do you give a girl who has everything? The Rossis are fucking rich, bro,” Theo adds.

“I know what I’m giving her,” I say, and it’s something her money can’t buy. I suppress my smirk as I slap Renji on the shoulder. “You got a kick out of annoying me then, didn’t you? All these years?”
