“I don’t know, maybe she has a point. From what I’ve heard, Liam and Ava cook together whenever they can. And I’ve never met a happier couple than those two.”
“True.” And if there’s one person I couldn’t imagine cheating on his wife, that would be Liam.
The man would die for his wife and daughter.
I have no doubt about that.
“Your parents never cooked together, did they?” he asks me.
“I’m not sure my father even knows how to boil an egg, let alone do anything else in the kitchen. It’s why his single status never lasts long.”
Although if you ask me, he would be better off just hiring a housekeeper. It would cost a lot less compared to all the alimony he’s had to pay over the years.
“Maybe Gabrielle is on to something. My parents are happily married, and they do cook together on the weekends.”
“What about you and your ex-fiancée? Did you cook together?”
“No. But we weren’t living together at the time, either.”
“Do you think it would have made a difference if you had cooked together?” For once, I’m not trying to prove a point—much. I really am curious.
“I doubt it. Our relationship problems had nothing to do with whether we cooked together or not. It had to do with me being away the majority of the time, risking my life, and Suzanna being lonely and hooking up with someone who was available.”
“How’s everyone doing so far?” Chef Marchand asks the class. The amusement in his voice now and from earlier makes sense. He knew about the plan for our partners to seduce us.
He was aware of the challenges we would face—beyond creating the perfect pastry.
There are a few answers of “Good” and “Great,” as well as a thumbs-up from one couple, who is busy making out.
As long as she doesn’t smack him on the ass with the spatula or whisk—the cooking version of BDSM—all is good.
“Since I’ve figured out your game,” I say to Jayden, “does that mean you’re going to help me now?”
“Are you saying I’m not allowed to seduce you anymore?” he asks on a wry smile.
“Will that part be in your report to Liam?” I’m joking.Mostly.
He groans. “I have no idea how I’ll explain the majority of what we’ve been doing here in the goddamn report.”
I give him a brief peck on the lips. “Just stick to the facts, soldier. Minus most of what goes down in the class and in our bedroom.” Unless Liam is interested in bringing Ava to the resort at some point, he doesn’t need to know the full extent of our stay here.
I return to making the pie. This time Jayden helps me…minus the blatant seduction.
Which I quickly miss.
“Hey, Landon.” Anthony’s voice breaks through the chatter in the classroom, and all eyes are drawn to the man standing in the doorway.
The man Jayden and I work with.
The man who’s here undercover.
Oh. Shit.

Jayden
At Anthony’sacknowledgment of Landon, Isabelle stiffens next to me. I fight doing the same.
