“Yes sir, they’ve been sitting at the same table the entire time, pounding back drink after drink.I’m pretty sure the bartender has cut them off and has been putting shots of water in front of them for the last five minutes, with the ladies thinking it’s still alcohol.”

“Stay put and make sure they don’t leave from the table,” I order.“I’m on my way.”

I hang up and look back at the closed door that leads to my little angel.Placing a hand on the door, I make a vow to her even though she’s too young to understand.

“I promise to fix this little one.I’ll make things right between your mommy and me.”

Striding down the hall, I spot Grandpa, Linc and Mitch shooting the shit.

“We need to go.Apparently your lovely wife and Saylor have been drinking at a bar across from the hotel this entire time.”

“Ohhhh! So that’s why we received a text from Saylor,” Grandpa says thoughtfully.

“What do you mean, Grandpa?”

“Saylor sent us a text, asking us to keep the baby overnight earlier.”

“Does she do that a lot?Let you keep Halo overnight?”I ask, pondering if my wife has somehow become a lush since we parted over two years ago.I wonder if I’m going to need to get Dr.Blake involved, if Saylor has become an alcoholic.I should probably Google if they offer AA meetings here in this little town.I wouldn’t blame her, with everything I’ve put her through over the last two years.

He shakes his head.

“No, Saylor doesn’t like to be away from Halo too long.Us and Sharilyn and Alan have to practically beg on our knees to get a full night with her.”He chuckles, like we are all privy to his joke.“She’s the best mother and always put Halo first, before anything or anyone.”

I nod as we make our rounds of goodbyes before heading out to the car.

Less than twenty minutes later, Linc and I are walking into a place called ‘The Watering Hole’ and it looks like any other small-town bar.The music is playing low, pool tables are in the back corner and TV’s are spread throughout the room.

We spot Dean in the corner, out of view, and he meets us halfway.Glancing over his shoulder, I see our little women with their asses at a wooden table.Saylor has her elbows on the table with her hands propping her head up.Everly isn’t fairing much better.

“No one has approached them since they sat down.Only the bartender has spoken with the women,” he informs us.

“Okay.Let’s go and get my little firecracker before she falls out of the booth,” I say and can’t help the small smile that graces my face.Saylor has never been much of a drinker and when she does partake, she’s the biggest lightweight, especially when it comes to drinking liquor. This should be fun.I’ve waited a long time to hear that sassiness come out in her.

I approach from behind and run my hand lightly up and down her back, and she shivers at the touch. The bartender stops making a drink and hurries over to us.

“Beat it buddy, she’s not interested,” he spouts.I have to give him credit for watching out for her.

Saylor slowly turns her head, but isn’t shocked to see me there.

“It’s okay Rusty, this here is my first husband,” she slurs, and waves her hand in gesture at me.

“First? How many you got, Sweetheart?”He raises an eyebrow and looks at her with humored interest.

“Wouldn’t you like to know.”Her sass shines through and I have to muffle a laugh, but then hate that she even considers that asshole her husband.“This one likes to spank,” she says and starts having a giggling fit.“Oh, and he can tie a knot better than any boy scout.”

I’ve tied her up once and spanked her twice, before we were separated, and I love how she focuses on that.It gives me hope that she’s been thinking of our time together and not the wife-stealer.Not wanting to spend our time talking or thinking about that fucker, or about my knot tying skills, Linc and I both dig in our wallets and pull out a handful of large bills and place them under their glasses of waters, then nod to Rusty.

“There’s nothing wrong with a few smacks to the ass if you ask me.”Rusty winks at Saylor, then takes her drink and money, along with Everly’s before disappearing down to the other end of the bar.“Let me know if you’re taking any more applications for future husbands.”

She starts to have another giggling fit and tries to wink at him, but fails miserably.

“Baby, let’s take a walk,” I say, and help her from the wooden table.I watch as Linc sweeps Everly’s legs up, bridal style, and carries her out the front door.

“Still bossy as ever, I see.”I shake my head as she continues her sassiness.I learned at the beginning of our relationship that when Saylor drinks, her filter is nonexistent. She says whatever is on her mind. Most of the time, she thinks it still remains in her head but then her mouth opens and she lets it loose.

“If I remember correctly, you love my bossiness,” I retort.

She lets out a dreamy sigh.
