“You’re going to miss your flight.”
As if pulled out of a swamp, I came alert instantly and spun around the office, searching for the time. A clock on the wall showed an entire hour passed since I left my room.
I didn’t even feel like we’d been here for that long. Something about being in Talon’s presence made all my surroundings fall to the wayside.
“Shit,” I murmured as I pulled out my phone to find a negative review from my ride share driver and a bill for the missed fare. “I missed my ride share too.”
“I’ll take care of it,” Talon insisted, and I wasn’t going to argue. Itwashis fault, after all.
“That’s great and all, but how am I going to get home? My family is relying on me.” I made it seem far more urgent than it was, but I knew I needed to get back to my life.
Talon grabbed his cell phone, pressed a button, and put his phone to his ear. “Charlie, I need a flight to Tennessee within the next three hours.” He listened to the person on the other end before finishing the call abruptly. “Your flight now leaves in two hours.”
“That’s when my old flight was going to leave. I won’t get through security in time,” I tried to explain, but he was busy grabbing a few things and sending a message on his phone.
“Talon,” I said more urgently.
“I chartered you a private plane to get you home. You won't have to go through security when you’re with me.”
“You’re coming?”
Talon walked up to me and pressed his lips to my forehead. I bit my cheek to keep from smiling. He didn’t need to see how deeply I enjoyed that show of affection.
“No.”
True to his word, Talon escorted me all the way up the stairwell of the plane on the hot tarmac. Dean didn’t travel with us, and even though the car was empty sans the driver, it felt like another presence was in the vehicle.
Probably my wild child’s guilt filling the space. She enjoyed that kiss with Talon a little too much.
The flight attendant grabbed my suitcase from his grasp and stored it inside the plane, leaving me and Talon standing alone just outside the plane.
“So, you’ll just call or message me the details for the first event?” I asked, twisting my hands in front of my body.
“Something like that,” he grunted as he scrolled through something on his phone that appeared to be far more interesting than my leaving.
“Classes will begin soon, so hopefully you’ll be able to rearrange a few of them.”
Silence grew, and I was ready to bid him farewell and head into the plane. I was quite curious about the interior.
Suddenly, a wicked grin slithered across Talon’s lips, and I felt like there was a secret I was not made privy to.
“Something going on?” I inquired as he finally slipped his phone into his suit pocket and gave me his full attention.
“Nothing for you to worry about.”
That ominous reply didn’t leave me feeling any better.
“I have something else for you,” he added as he reached into his pants pocket and brought out something clasped tightly in his fist. “Hold out your left hand.”
My eyebrow cocked immediately at his demand.
“Please?”
I lifted my hand, the gold band shining under the Florida sun, and held it between our bodies. Instead of glimpsing at Talon’s hands, I focused on his face as he slid something heavy onto my finger.
“Better,” he declared, taking a step back.
With a shuddering breath, I peered down at my hand and gasped. The largest diamond I’d ever seen was resting on my ring finger, just above the wedding band I gained that morning.
