“Yep. If you didn’t get a kiss goodnight mate, I’m guessing she got the wrong end of the stick.”

I thought it was odd Victoria didn't come back after so much promise, but now I realise she came to her own conclusions when she saw Georgie. She must hate me right now. I feel like a piece of shit. “Fuck it.”

“Sorry bruv.” Will’s apology is calm now he’s got to the bottom of an obvious misunderstanding.

Then it dawns on me. I’m missing something. “How do you know all this?”

“Her mate was completely off her nut, so I got them a taxi.”

“Bollocks,” I say under my breath.

Will tries to reassure me. “Don’t worry, I made sure she was alright.”

“Thanks mate but it should have been me who did that. Now she probably thinks I’m some kind of playboy as well as an ill-mannered prick.”

“And I also said it wasn’t like you to jump from one woman to another, but she more or less said I was covering for you.” Will continues and I feel my blood warming. “I tried to tell her you were the good one and being bad ismyjob.” He raises his brow, but I’m in no mood for jokes and he can sense it. “Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut altogether. Sorry bruv.”

I take in a deep breath.

“It’s not your fault, don’t worry about it,” I half smile.

He sits forward and places his head in his hands. “It’s been a shit day.”

I can see he has other things on his mind. “Why? What happened to you?”

He sighs deeply. “I’ve just got a lot of stuff going on and it’s thrown me.”

“Like what?” I’d already noticed he hadn’t been himself and I’m sure it’s nothing to do with my non-existent love life.

“Nothing,” he shrugs off. “Anyway, we weren’t talking about me. What are you doing about that lovely girl?”

“Mate, listen.” I grab his shoulder. “I know I haven’t spoken to another woman tonight, apart from Georgie, but she doesn’t count.”

“But Victoria doesn’t know that, does she.”

I give him the side eye. I know I’m in the wrong.

“You should be more careful,” he snaps. “I bet it was easy to get the wrong impression.”

“Ok, who is this imposter and what have you done with my brother?” I laugh and he shakes his head.

“You might take the piss out of me now, but this is brotherly love, Aidey. I want the best for you, that’s all.”

“I appreciate all that and I want the same for you too but I’ve never known you to be considerate about a woman’s feelings before. Has Chloe seen this new side to your personality or has she got this delight to come?”

Now it’s his turn to give me the side eye, but he doesn’t supply any explanation while he rubs his eyes.

“What’s going on Will?”

He huffs out a sigh and rubs his face with his palm once again. “She finished with me, alright? We’re done.”

“Oh shit mate. I’m sorry.” I’m not shocked they’ve finished but I don’t like seeing Will like this. Despite being a bit of a dickhead when it comes to the opposite sex, he’ll hurt inside and nobody likes to see their family upset.

“What happened?”

“I wasn’t good to her and don’t try to sugar-coat it. We all know what I’m like.”

“Still—”
