Evan had even insisted that Nix call his mom to assure her that he was okay after the fight on ice. Nix might have been putting it off since he didn’t want his mom disappointed in him, but Evan had said they wouldn’t leave for the airport until Nix made the call. He’d done it and his mom was happy to hear from him. Not mad at all. She also hadn’t mentioned anything about the threat that Gem was worried about so Nix didn’t think his brother had shared that with her and neither had Nix.
After Nix called his mom like a good boy, Evan had made sure they had everything for the away games.
Evan was such a gentleman. He even carried Nix’s bags.
The team might not know they were together, but it wasn’t like either of them were hiding it. If they didn’t know, it wasbecause they weren’t paying attention. Evan had said that Nix was obvious but so was he.
Evan had kept Nix occupied with snacks, a handheld game, and even stories about a cousin that he was close to and had promised Nix that he’d meet soon.
Nix was obsessed with Evan’s stories. He was the best storyteller of all time. A happy night would be lying in Evan’s arms as he heard more dragon tales. After they’d landed, the team had headed straight for the arena. Evan had stashed more of Nix’s favorite treats that he’d baked for after a quick-and-easy practice.
All Nix had to worry about was the game in front of him. It had been nice. Calming. Evan handled the hard stuff and Nix got to be his happy self. A total win for him!
There was the small secret that he still hadn’t shared with Evan. It wasn’t Nix’s fault. Right after he’d gotten the call from Gem, Evan had shown up, and everything was happening so fast!
The knowledge that some of the other hockey players might be out to get him was probably something that he should have told Evan right away. Oops! His bad. Nix had been careful though. Once his skates had hit the ice that night, Nix had paid close attention to the team across from him. There were some hostile looks sent his way but nothing that Nix felt was off.
He’d vowed to Gem that he would be careful but through the entire game, that they’d totally won, but it hadn’t been necessary. Nix hadn’t been targeted any more than at any other game.
“Hey!”
Nix was yanked over to Evan’s side. He blinked up. “Huh?”
“Our floor,” Evan tilted his head toward the open elevator doors.
Oh. He’d gotten lost in his head. Nix rushed forward to catch the doors before they closed. Dragging Evan down the hall by the hand, Nix was back to bouncing. Not only was he anxious not to miss any Aries’s game but food and cuddling and hopefully sex. Lots of sex.
They would fly out early the next morning and arrive in New York for practice and stay the night before a game the day after. Nix was totally calculating how many hours until Evan’s no-sex rule went into play.
“Slow down, boy,” Evan grumbled.
“If you let me carry my own bag, maybe you’d walk faster,” Nix pointed out. Not that he wanted to carry his bag, but he was kind of a brat. It was fun to brat. Evan kept threatening to put Nix over his knee and there was the whole being tied up thing. Those things needed to happen.
“How about I carry youandour bags?”
Nix nearly stumbled over his own feet. Luckily Evan was able to keep Nix upright and hold on to their bags. Nix couldn’t force his feet to move forward. He stared at Evan as every fantasy he’d ever kept hidden slammed into him.
“Nix?” Evan pulled him closer while smirking. “Your heart just started beating so fast. Is that something you would like? Being carried around by Daddy?”
He swallowed hard before giving a slow nod.
“Our room,” Evan said sternly then urged Nix toward the hotel door.
Nix allowed Evan to move him forward. He waited until Evan unlocked the door before shuffling inside.
“Go ahead and climb on the bed and find the game. I’ll put our things away then order some dinner,” Evan told him.
“And treats?” Nix asked. “I got one assist in the game tonight. And you had another shutout. We deserve treats.” He ran and jumped on the bed then flopped over to his stomach. Oh! What a nice big, soft bed.
“I’ll get some dessert, but you need to eat all your dinner first.”
“Yes, Daddy,” Nix teased. “I’ll be a good boy and eat all my dinner.”
Evan’s eyes glowed gold for a brief moment.
Interesting. Very interesting.
Nix grinned. Evan really liked Nix calling him that. It was so nice to have something that could make Evan react like that.
