She turned to me, and her pointy elf ear poked through her brown hair, which was streaked with reddish and blond highlights. “About what?”

I lifted a strand and ran the smooth piece through my fingers. The variations of color in her hair reminded me of fire. “Austin.”

“The guy you just told me about?”

I’d given her a quick summary of my day earlier.

“Yup, the bear shifter.” I released her hair. “Yes. You know how I told you how he appears to be interested in Pandora, but thinks he screwed up any chance with her?”

“Yes.”

“Well, what if—” I paused and started on a new thread. “Remember how Pandora was instrumental in getting us together?”

She slanted a brow up a notch. “How could I forget—partner?”

I laughed at her reference to me volunteering to help her catch a demon, a not-so-subtle indication that I wanted to spend time with her.

“Maybe we should give them another shot?” I suggested.

Zoe jerked her head. “What do you mean? Like matchmaking?”

“No. Wait, yes,” I clarified. “That’sexactlywhat I mean.”

“Hmm. Let me think.” Zoe tapped her fingers on her thigh. “What if Pandora isn’t interested? She’s not going to be happy if we try to set them up.”

“Oh, she’s interested,” I countered in a knowing tone.

“How do you know?”

I snorted. “I worked in a strip club for years. I’ve developed a sense of knowing when a woman is intrigued or wants you to shake your dragon scales elsewhere.”

She tipped her head. “Did you know that about me?”

I laughed. “I didn’t know my head from my tail when I met you. But that was because my dragon knew you were the one.”

Zoe glanced at me with admiration. “It worked out in my favor in the end.” Her lips quirked into a semi-grin. “Let’s brainstorm some ideas.”

Zoeand I had brainstormed some ways to get Pandora and Austin together, but none of them were great. When we went to work at the Network the next day, and Pandora stepped out, I called Zoe, Nova, and Cassandra into the conference room. Cassandra and Nova were both witches, and Nova owned the house I lived in.

After telling them our plan, Cassandra slapped her hand on the long table. “I love it, and I’m in! And I agree that Pandora is interested in Austin. She gets flustered and blushes when she talks about him. I’ve never seen her act that way about a guy before.”

Nova raised her index finger. “I’ve got it.” After we turned to her, she said, “Gianna is having a supernatural speed dating night at the Danger Zone this weekend. It’s the perfect opportunity for us to try to pair them up.”

“Won’t there be countless others looking to connect?” Zoe asked.

“Yes, but they’ll just be background noise in the beautiful symphony,” I declared.

Zoe chuckled. “How poetic.”

We quickly debated the pros and cons and decided to go for it.

“I’ll call Gianna to arrange this,” Nova said. “She’s going to love it.”

“Nothing like conspiring with an elf, two witches, and a siren to get my boss together with a bear shifter.” I leaned back in the chair and put my hands behind my head. “I love this job.”

Zoe arched a brow. “If Pandora goes along with it…”
