Iwas about to clarify that we didn’t actually use the flosser as a sex toy, but her squirming was far too entertaining.
Novashut her eyes and grimaced. “Wickedbats and flying monkeys.Theimage is already there.”Shemimicked the motion of scrubbing her face. “Getout of my brain.”
Ilaughed.PerhapsI’dlet that image simmer for a bit.Hersqueamishness was too enjoyable to end it just yet.
Instead,Iteased, “Idon’t know what you’re getting all flustered about,Nova.”Igestured in a circular motion. “Itwas all good, cleanfun.”
Novagroaned, proving that she could indeed hear me despite trying to drown me out.
“Whatabout you?”Inudged her arm. “Anynew sex stories?Preferablyshenanigans gone wrong?”
NovaandIhad gone to an adult store when she wanted to find new ways to spice up her love life withDiego.Ithad turned into a disaster when everything went wrong.Mortifyingto her at the time, but now a hilarious story.
Novaflashed me a look that answeredhell no.
Ileaned closer to her and pressed my hands under my chin. “Youknow,I’mup for another shopping trip to get some bedroom toys.Youshould come with me.Justbecause it didn’t work out as planned last time doesn’t mean you should give up on experimenting with?—”
“Absolutelynot,”Novacut me off and shook her head so hard it was like she was trying to shake spiders out of her hair. “I’velearned my lesson by shopping there withyou.”Shepointed at me and then to herself. “Itdoesn’t end so well forme.”

Onthe nightof the concert,Idrove us north intoNewHampshire.Welistened to the band’s most popular songs during the drive.
“You’reright, they’re pretty good,”Novasaid.
Iglanced over at her and grinned. “Iwouldn’t drag you along ifIdidn’t think you’d like them.”
Sure, this club wouldn’t draw the big names like the large venues, but at least we wouldn’t have to deal with the nonsense involved in those bigger concerts.Securityat some of those stadium venues was so uptight they’d kick you out of the aisles for dancing.Gettingcalled out fordancingat aconcert.Whatthe twin toads was that about?Wedidn’t go to sit politely in our seats.
Aswe walked toward the entrance of this club,Iturned toNova. “Youlook super cute.”
AlthoughNovawould be happy to live in buttery-soft leggings with fun prints,Iconvinced her to wear the short maroon skirt and a sleeveless, black, silky top.Ichose a sleeveless black dress with a black corset that flared out to a skirt with dancing skeletons.
“Thanks.”Shesmiled but then it vanished. “IhopeIdon’t regret wearing these shoes in an hour.”
Iinsisted on her wearing heels, but they were chunky and comfortable. “You’dregret not wearing them.Iswear you always end up standing behind the tallest guy with the broadest shoulders wherever we go.”
“That’smy luck.”Shesnorted. “Theshort girl gets stuck behind a wall of a man.”
“NotifIhave a say.”Afterwe stepped inside the club and showed our tickets,Iturned in a semi-circle.Itlooked and smelled like an average dive bar, heady with the scent of cheap beer, but with a stage for live music and an open area in front where people could stand to see the band.AC/DC’s“HaveaDrinkonMe” played over the speakers, muting the din of conversations around us. “Besides, if you do, we’ll snag a seat.”Imotioned to the back of the club, which had hard black chairs lined up around tables. “Comeon, let’s get a drink.”
“Priorities,”Novateased with an agreeable nod.
Aswe scanned the sad list of options for overpriced beer,Isighed.Beerwas too filling, soIdidn’t drink one often, but ifIdid, it had to be a decent type—not the cheap crap that frats guzzled by the keg.
“Theyhave hard seltzer,”Novapointed out.
“Thatwill do.”
Afterwe each had black cherry seltzers poured into plastic cups, we wandered through the club, looking for a good vantage point forNovato get a prime viewing spot.Ihad to look out for my petite friend.Theclub was filling up quickly as the show was about to begin, but we found a spot near the front on the right of the stage.
Whenthe lights dimmed, people packed in, moving closer.Theopening band came out.Theirtheatrics were better than the music.Atleast that part was entertaining, and they didn’t play for too long.
ThenTrubbleArizingwalked out.Irecognized the band members whoI’dmet at my club as they walked out to cheers and headed to their instruments.Theywore more gothic makeup and outlandish outfits with big black boots and lots of silver spikes.ThenZanestrode out, and the crowd cheered louder.Heraised both arms toward the stars and took the mic.
Whenhe sang in a low, almost growling sound, piercing female shrieks echoed around us.
Novaleaned toward me. “Wow, he’s even better looking in person.”
