“Tryingto change the subject to supernatural foreplay because this conversation makes you uncomfortable.”

Ishrugged and raised both hands palms up. “Wortha shot.”

Asthe minutes passed,my enthusiasm about the party wavered.Everyoneseemed to be enjoying themselves, but something was off.Somethingwas missing.

Someonewas missing.

Andit was all my fault.

Amongall these couples,Sebastian’sabsence was all the more noticeable.Heshould have been there.Hewas theDannyto mySandy.

Itried to put my chagrin aside and ensure everyone was having fun, but whenTypeONegative’s“WolfMoon” came on,Isagged against the wall.Imissed my wolf.

WhathadIdone to him?Tous?

MaybeNovawas right about the necklace.Nowwith it off, all that irritation atSebastianno longer seemed to affect me.Whereelse could all that unexplained rage have come from?

Ineeded fresh air.AsIrushed to the back door,IspottedNovatalking toPandoraalong the opposite wall, showing her the necklace.Somuch for waiting until the morning. No,Iwasn’t ready to deal with them yet and their scrutiny.Ialready had enough regrets building, and the most important was the boulder-sized one when it came toSebastian.

HowcouldIhave treated him so badly?WhywouldIhave suggested something so foolish as a separation—somethingIdidn’t want?

Anache grew within.Allthose times he’d come here after work or on his nights off to spend time with me or ensureIgot home safely returned.HadItaken him for granted, assuming he’d always be there?

Iyearned to have him with me now.Imissed the way he looked at me with his deep, soulful, brown eyes.Imissed him, period.

Pushinghim away was a mistake.Atremendous one.Ineeded to make amends and do something beforeIlost him forever.

OnceIpushed open the door and stepped outside,Ibreathed in the cool night air.Afull moon hovered over the ocean in the distance, a symbol of the wolf and siren.

Ipulled out my phone to callSebastianand apologize.Hedidn’t deserve howI’dtreated him.AfterIpressed his name under the top slot on myFavorites,Iraised the phone to my ear.

Aman called out, “Gianna.”

Irecognized that voice.

ItwasZane.

CHAPTER13

GIANNA

Zanestrode toward me, disguised by aZorromask and black cape, and my skin prickled with wariness.Iended the call beforeSebastiananswered.WhatIhad to say to him would be in private.

“Hello,”Igreeted him with a forced smile. “Ididn’t know you were still in the area.Orcoming here tonight.”

Hepulled off his mask and fixed a steady gaze on me. “Howhave you been?”

“Fine,”Ianswered quickly and looked away.Ididn’t want to deal with awkward small talk, not whenIhad a much more serious conversationIwanted to have withSebastian.

“Haveyou thought more about my invitation to join us on tour?”

Ihad.Andto thinkI’dalmost contacted him to take them up that offer.Sure, it had its appeal as a fun, little escape from everyday life, but that’s all it was—pretend.Itwasn’t somethingItruly wanted. “Ihave.ButIcan’t.”

“Ofcourse you can. You’reable to do anything you want.”Hestepped closer, into my private space, and stared at me without blinking.

Hemight be hot, but he was now super creepy, andIdidn’t like that intense eye thing.

“Yes,I’maware of that,”Ireplied and stood straighter, refusing to back down from him. “That’swhyIcreated this club.”
