Ilaughed.PoorKylie.She’sbeen subjected to our public pawing before. “Whatis it?”

“Nothingthat can’t wait,” she said.

Iturned toSebastian. “Ibetter get back to work. We’llcontinue this later.”

Hiseyes gleamed with a dark feral glow that hinted he was already planning the seduction. “Countingon it.”

CHAPTER7

SEBASTIAN

OnTuesday, we met up with the gang for game night at the houseIused to live in withDiegoandLucas.Thatwas howI’dmet them both. We’dfound this location with the help of theSalemSupernaturalNetworkand lucked out by not only getting along as roommates but becoming close friends.Morelike brothers, even though we were different supernatural species.

We’dlived in the larger apartment of the purple house that had been added onto over the years.NovaandDiegonow lived in the smaller one on the left whileLucasandZoelived in the main space on the right.Yet, sinceDiegostill kept his old bedroom in the bigger apartment to accommodate his peculiar sleep requirements as a vampire, and since the main kitchen was shared by all, they all often congregated in the bigger space.

I’dkicked everyone out of the kitchen and had taken it over as ifIstill lived there.ButwhenIopened the fridge,Ishuddered upon seeing one ofDiego’sghastly pouches of blood.Thoseweren’t somethingImissed.

Inthe living room,DiegoandLucasbickered like an old couple on deciding which album to play.Theyfinally settled on an old favorite withLedZeppelin’s“Housesof theHoly.”GiannaandZoechatted as they poured champagne and wine.Zoepulled out theScrabbleboard game and put it on the coffee table in the living room for after dinner.

Lucas’sgray cat,Shadow, watched everyone from a wary distance high on a cat tree.Shadowwas aptly named.Somany times he’d surprised me whenI’dlived there as he often blended into the shadows of the apartment.Itwasn’t as if we had any natural sunlight coming in.Partof living with a vampire had meant keeping the shades down during the day so as not to burn him to a crisp.

OnceI’dfinished the final touches of the chicken cacciatore,Ipulled the pan out of the oven and cut off a tiny piece.Afterblowing on it so it was cool enough,Itasted it to ensure it was up to my standards.Thespices of the tomato sauce enhanced the tenderness of the chicken.Yes, it was ready to serve.Ipiled the meal onto a serving dish and carried it over to the dining room table where theCaesarsalad and fresh bread awaited.

“Dinneris ready,”Iannounced.

Aswe gathered around the table,Lucasinhaled. “Itsmells delicious.Man,Imiss you living here.”

Diegosnorted. “That’snot what you’d say back then.”

“Ha.True,”Lucasagreed. “Butwe all got on good.”

Right.Andwe still gave each other a hard time, as brothers did.

Wefilled our plates with chicken, which did smell amazing indeed, and started eating, except forDiego.Hemerely took a morsel of food to placate me.

Lucasmoaned and placed his hand on his stomach. “Deliciousas always.”

“Sogood,” others agreed.

Giannaswallowed her bite. “Thisis incredible,Sebastian.”

Mychest puffed out as it always did when my mate praised me.Preparingfood for others made me feel good.Itwas somethingIwas good at, and it made them happy. “I’mglad everyone’s enjoying it.”Iresisted shootingDiegoa look.Immortalityhad too many costs to make it worthwhile.

“Ilove when we get the whole gang together.”Lucasraised his wineglass and took a sip.

Giannabrought her fingertips together. “Good, becauseIhave a date for you to take off work and put on your calendars.”

“Forwhat?”Zoeasked.

“Afun event we’re putting together at the club,”Giannareplied with an enigmatic smile. “AHalfwaytoHalloweenparty!”Shegave the details and said, “It’sgoing to be a blast!”Sheraised her champagne glass to her beautiful lips and took a sip.

Novaslanted her head and squinted. “HalloweeninJune?”

“Justa smidge past the halfway point,”Giannanoted, bringing her thumb and forefinger an inch apart.

“I’min!”Lucasreplied.Hewaved his arms wildly overhead. “Muppetflail.”

“Good.”Giannanodded with a satisfied expression.
