WhenIthrust deeper, she lifted her hips.AsIrocked into her over and over, she moaned louder.Herbody bucked against mine.Shewas close.Irammed into her harder, and she dug her nails into my back.Sheshattered with a cry and pulsed around me.

Itfelt amazing, lurching me to the brink with her.AsIpounded harder, chasing her release with my own, my canines extended, itching with a desperation to mark her.

Theinstinct to claim her as mine soared to a mountainous peak.Ilowered my head, intoxicated with the need to pierce her flesh—a warning to all others she was taken.

Shewas mine.

Doit, my wolf urged.

Iopened my mouth as my fangs emerged, hovering just inches from her tantalizing skin.

Yes,Iwanted to with all my being.

ButIcouldn’t.Notyet.Shewasn’t mine.

Ihad to win her heart beforeIclaimed her as my mate.

Ittook all my self-control not to bite her as her inner walls contracted around me.Iforced myself to pull my fangs away from her flesh just before a climax ripped through me—one so powerful with the intensity of the mating call.ButI’dbe forced to ignore that urge until she was ready.

Ifshe was ever ready to accept me as her mate.

CHAPTER12

VALEN

Iwoke first and heldCassandrain my arms while she breathed deeply at my side.Mywolf rested, content.Hewas funny around her—either clamoring with excitement and eager to get closer or soothed by her presence.

Whilethe sun rose, more details in her room came into view.Thewalls were painted a pale blue, and the white furniture was covered with belongings—from books to plants to oils.Aframed picture of what looked likePaige’scrayon drawing of the ocean hung on the wall.Cassandrahad apologized for her house being messy, but it didn’t look that way to me.Itseemed lived in, comfortable, and by extension, comforting.

Beinghere withCassandraagain, being welcomed into her home and then into her bed, made the risk coming here more than worth it.Ididn’t know if she’d even want to see me after how strangeI’dbehaved during that awkward morning in my cabin.AndmaybeI’dpegged her wrong, too, by first thinking she was just like any other woman who only wanted to have a little fun while they were away for the weekend.ThemoreIgot to know her, the moreIliked her.

Thenthere was the biggest mystery of all—the mystic connection of her being my fated mate.Imay have accepted it as true, but that didn’t meanIhad a clue about what to do about it.

Cassandra’salarm sounded.Shestirred before she stretched her arms and then her eyes fluttered open. “Goodmorning,Valen.”Shesquinted as she smiled at me, her eyes heavy with sleep.

“Goodmorning, beautiful.”

“Howlong have you been awake?” she asked.

“Notlong.Twentyminutes or so.”

“Areyou hungry?”

“I’ma shifter.”Igrinned. “Icould always eat.”

Shechuckled. “Let’smake some breakfast then.”

Whenshe climbed out of bed, my gaze lowered to her naked ass, andImoaned.

“Everythingokay?” she said and gave me a coquettish look over her shoulder before she stood.

“Everything’sgreat.”Ireached for her, but she was out of reach. “JustthinkingIshouldn’t have let you out of bed yet.”

“Why?Didyou have something else in mind?” she asked in a saucy manner before slowly pulling her robe on.

“Comehere andI’llshow you.”Ipulled the covers off and reached for her wrist.

Shelet me grab her and then slid out of my grasp. “Maybeyou should catch me.”
