“Sure,” I replied.

“You know I won’t go to sleep anytime soon,” Diego replied.

He and Nova had booked an interior cabin to avoid the pesky issue of windows and sunlight.

After Nova agreed, Lucas said, “One playing upbeat music. I’m not ready to wind down in a mellow piano lounge.”

We wandered the main decks where most of the activities happened and entered a club that attracted a younger crowd. Colorful lights flashed in the dark space, and many people danced. The scents of alcohol and energetic bodies moving mingled.

We found seating for the four of us, two longer lounge style seats facing each other with a small table in between. A server stopped by and took our drink order. I’d sampled different wines and cocktails this week and looked for one I hadn’t yet tried. After all, we were on vacation. I found one called a Pink Lady.

“I’ll be right back.” Lucas headed over to the DJ.

“Uh oh, there he goes putting in his requests,” Diego said.

“So what?” Nova replied. “He likes music.”

“Trust me, I know. I usually wake up listening to one of his records.” He pointed to his ear. “Even if he plays them on low, I can hear them.”

Vampire hearing.

When Lucas returned to the table sporting a mischievous grin, I asked, “Are you up to something?”

“Moi?” he said with an exaggerated pout and placed his hand on his chest. “Never.”

I called him out. “That tone means you are indeed up to something.”

The server arrived with our drinks.

After we all had ours placed on white napkins in front of us, Lucas raised his Old Fashioned. “To a great night and an even better tomorrow.”

“Our last one on the ship,” I noted with chagrin.

We toasted and sipped our drinks.

Lucas put his glass down. “Ah, just right.”

My drink wasn’t too sweet, which I preferred. I glanced at Nova and Diego. “Tomorrow is our last day at sea. How are you going to spend it?”

“Inside,” Diego declared with a quick laugh.

“We found ways of getting around during daylight,” Nova added. “I’m sure I’ll spend part of it reading. I need to see if I was right about who done it in my mystery.”

No surprise there as she loved books.

“What about you?” Nova asked.

“I was thinking about being fancy and checking out the art auction,” I replied.

The first notes of Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself” played. I turned to Lucas and gave him a look. “Youdidn’t.”

He grinned widely. “I did.” He stood up and pulled my hand. “Come on, my elf. Your leg is healed now, right? Let’s dance.”

I shook my head and laughed. He’d played this for me every so often, singing it as Dancing With My Elf.

“I’m not ready yet. Let me finish my drink.”

“Oh, okay,” he replied with rueful agreement. He leaned back and put his arm behind me on the seat cushion. Soon, he was moving his upper body and humming along with it.
