We walked over to them. A few appeared to have had too much mead and were bobbing crooked in the air where they hovered.
“Thanks for coming to our wedding. I’ll miss you,” Lucas told them. “Come back anytime.”
“You’re welcome to visit us, too,” Ursula said in a slightly tipsy voice. “You know where to find us.”
Marty said, “Congratulations.” He flew up and patted Lucas on the shoulder with a tiny hand. “I know we didn’t start off on the right foot, but I hope there are no grudges.”
“None,” Lucas replied.
My husband had a charm that won everyone over, even the surliest of sprites.
When the familiar Billy Idol song “Dancing with Myself” played, I chuckled. The last time he’d requested it was on the cruise when he’d been under the influence of sprite magic. How much had changed since then.
“I think we should reclaim our song with a better memory.” Lucas offered me his hand. “Would you like to dance, my beloved bride?”
I accepted his hand. “My husband.” When he gave me a boyish grin, I added, “Are you ready to go Dancing With Your Elf?”
He spun me around and then pulled me close, gazing at me with a twinkle in his eyes. “My favorite way to dance.”
EPILOGUE
PANDORA
Weddings were strange.
They always brought me to remember the one I’d planned. The one that never took place.
I knew it was the right choice, but still… what if?
What would our lives had been like if we had gone through with it? Could I have found a way to bring him back to the light?
I released a slow exhale. It didn’t matter now. Our engagement had been years ago. He was long gone.
After we’d gone our separate ways, I’d decided love wasn’t in the crystal ball for me. I focused on my work at the Salem Supernatural Network, which kept me busy and distracted.
That was a better life plan. Safer. Love was too painful.
This way, no one would have their heart broken.
