“Helpful,” Diego muttered under his breath.

When I shot him a look, he said, “Uh oh, I may get kicked out of this jolly adventure.”

I’d gone with him to a jewelry store when he was looking to find one for Nova. He’d asked me to leave as my excitement made him anxious. “Nah, I’m not as easily flustered like some people,” I teased.

Colleen said, “I have an idea of what you mean. And I have some things that you might want to take a look at. Be right back.” She walked through a gap in the velvet curtains. I meandered around the store, sniffing at the various dried herbs and the incense.

Colleen returned and announced, “Here are some rather special rings, many created by witches.”

“Ooh, yes.” I rubbed my hands together. Now we were talking.

“We have more options than traditional diamond rings. Moonstone. Carved bands. Knots. Antiques.” She placed the velvet lined trays before me.

“Moonstones.”

I examined the first set. “Pretty.” But it wasn’t the one.

“Carved bands.” She pointed to the second tray.

“Nice.” Those were beautiful as well, but not quite right.

“And antiques.” She paused. “These have quite a variety.”

“Oh.” My eyes widened as I zoomed in on a red gemstone with silver carvings around it. “This is stunning.”

“Indeed.” Colleen smiled. “Here, take a closer look.”

When I lifted the ring, I gaped. On closer look, it appeared to have a dragon’s head holding the gem. “Am I imagining it, or is that a dragon?”

Colleen laughed. “You’re right. The witch who created this was married to a dragon shifter in Eastern Europe. She loved rubies and worked dragons into many of her designs.”

The dragon theme was subdued, not flashy. I could picture it on Zoe’s finger. It was perfect—a symbol that her dragon loved her forever.

“It has the qualities of an amulet as well,” Colleen added. “Perfect to protect a loved one.”

My heart thumped. “This is it. This is the one.” I turned to the guys. “What do you think?”

“Great choice, man,” Diego said.

“She’s going to love it,” Sebastian added.

I beamed at Colleen. “I’ll take it.”

She tipped her head up with a slight smile. “I thought you might like it.”

Back at the house,I showed the ring to the sprites in the garden.

“Ooh, it’s lovely.” Ursula clasped her tiny hands together as she hovered before me.

Many others flew closer to admire it. Their fascination with my choice gave me more confidence that I’d chosen the right one.

Next up was the proposal. Diego, Sebastian, and I talked about it in the living room.

“She wouldn’t want a big to-do,” Diego said.

“No-sir-ee-bob,” I agreed.

“So, a proposal at a Red Sox game broadcast on a giant screen would be out,” Sebastian said.
