“A dragon?” she repeated with awe. “What brings you here?”
“I’m here for a wedding. I love the gardens here and wanted to visit once more before we leave.”
“Where are you going?”
“Sailing to Boston. But we live north of it in Salem.”
“I’ve heard of Salem.” She nodded. “It’s home to many witches, right?”
“Yes.”
“And a dragon shifter?” she asked.
“Yes.”
“You get along?”
“Sure, why not?” I shrugged.
“Dragon-man, you can’t let anyone know you saw us,” Marty warned.
“Why not?”
“Humans are dangerous. We must keep our existence secret.”
“Many can be,” I agreed. “But many are aware of supernaturals where I live, so it’s not a big deal. We get along fine with each other and humans.”
The sprites glanced at each other as if surprised by what I’d revealed.
Marty crossed his arms as he fluttered before me. “I don’t want others to know about us. Don’t tell anyone.”
I pointed at him and scolded, “Then you shouldn’t have flown up and announced your presence by smacking me in the nose.”
This little flyboy scowled at me.
“What’s your name?” the female asked.
“Lucas. And you?”
“Ursula,” she replied.
Over the next few minutes, she asked me about what it was like to live among humans.
Since I only had the morning here, I pulled out my phone to check the time. “I need to head to the ship. It was nice meeting you all.” Except for the nose puncher.
Once onboard, I met up with Zoe in the cabin. She lay reclined on the bed. She wore a pair of khaki shorts and a black tank top, which made the red and blond highlights stand out in her brown hair. Seeing her resting like this during the afternoon was unlike her, as she was often on the go. I was glad to see her relaxing.
“How was snorkeling?” I greeted her with a kiss.
Her scent suffused me with the familiar comfort of being near my mate. My dragon perked in her presence and then relaxed, content.
“Great. It was relaxing.” She gave me a knowing smile. “You were right. I was overdue for a vacation.”
“Definitely. I’m glad I convinced you to step away from work for a while.”
She squeezed my hand. “That’s why you’re good for me.”
I arched my brows. “Is that the only reason?” I flashed a mischievous grin.
