“I’m sure they do. It’s hard adjusting to a new place.”

“It is indeed.”

“How about Marty? Do you keep your distance?”

“We did at first, but now we give each other a hard time, kind of like how Sebastian, Diego, and I do to each other.” Lucas shrugged. “He’s all right. He actually helped me find better spots for my new sage plant.”

“Really?”

“Indeed.” Lucas smiled. “The witches will be happy. They go through sage quicker than shoppers rushing into a store on Black Friday.”

When we reached the house, I said, “I’m going to run to the store. Be right back.” I headed down the driveway to my car.

“Want me to come with you?”

“No, that’s fine. I’m headed to the hardware store. You know how I can get in there.”

He chuckled. “True. Okay, I’ll take a shower and wait for you in my bed.” He wiggled his brows. “We can have dessert.”

“Looking forward to it.”

I drove to pick up some supplies to create new weapons tomorrow. Our caseload was low at the Network right now, so it was a good time for me to spend creating weapons—that and it was an odd hobby I found soothing.

Then again, I better not jinx it—or we could get more activity than Salem during Halloween.

Jinx it, I did.

When I returned from the store, I parked in the driveway. I heard something out back. It sounded like the sprites were shouting at someone.

I ran into the back yard and searched around. The sprites were flying in circles above, distressed.

“What is it?” I asked them.

“Her!” One of the sprites pointed to the house.

A woman was climbing up a ladder to Lucas’s open bedroom window. My gut twisted. Who the hell was that and what was she doing?

Marty, Ursula, and other sprites flew at her, telling her to get down.

I ran to the base of the ladder and rattled it. “Climb down now, or I’ll pull the ladder,” I warned. “It won’t be a pleasant fall.”

She shrieked and turned over her shoulder.

I gasped. It was Linda.

CHAPTER16

LUCAS

After I took a shower, I went to my room to wait for Zoe. That’s when I heard the women shouting.

I ran to my window and glanced down. Of all the crazies in Hades…

Linda was on our ladder, climbing up to my window. I’d left the ladder out earlier after cutting branches from a tree. I smacked my forehead. Bad move.

“Linda, what are you doing?” I asked her.

She stared up, terrified. “Make them stop, Lucas. They’re scaring me.”
