Zoe opened the curtain a crack wider, and more sunlight drifted in. “Hopefully, nothing nefarious. We’ve dealt with enough illegal magic in recent months.”
“True.” Diego’s ex had confounded his memory and befuddled him with a love potion. Then, sirens had cursed Gianna with an aging spell. “You don’t think...” I left that thought unfinished. “Not here, out on the middle of the ocean on a cruise ship.”
“I don’t know what to think yet,” Zoe replied with a worried glance. She pressed her lips together. “Let’s backtrack through what happened yesterday that could explain it.”
I traveled backward in my thoughts to the previous day. “Well, I did get popped in the nose by a grumpy sprite.”
She tapped her fingers together. “And they are known for mischief.”
I ground my teeth. “Son of a motherless ghoul. That little shit must have played some kind of prank on me.”
“That’s what I’m thinking. You told us about the sprites at dinner. Later that night, you started to act out of it.” She scanned me from the head down. “How are you feeling now? Any brain fog or confusion?”
I scanned my systems. “Everything seems up to par.” I pulled the sheet up and glanced down. “I wish I could say all systems go, but it looks like it’s bye-bye, boner.”
She arched her brow and darted me a speculative glance. “Were you planning on bringing it out to play?”
“With you? Always.” I was looking forward to starting the morning off right until last night came up. “We’re on vacation, and I’d be happy spending the rest of the time here in this cabin with you. Especially to make up for my spectacle last night.” I leaned her back in the bed and rolled on top of her. “We’re here to have fun.” The best way to deal with the humiliation of last night was to joke about it. “I want to show you some new moves I’ve been working on this week.”
“Oh, really?” Zoe’s eyes twinkled. “Like what?”
I positioned myself between her legs and thrust forward with exaggerated hip movements. “Forget dancing on tables. Watch how I roll with the waves.”
Zoe laughed and lowered her hand to her face. “That’ssobad.”
“I don’t see you pushing me away.” I bent down and kissed her neck.
“True.” She put her hands on my shoulders and nudged me back. “But we need to be serious for a second. What are we going to do about what happened last night?”
I hunched my shoulders. “What can we do? If it was a sprite’s prank, it’s behind us. They’re all the way back in Bermuda. It’s not like we can turn this ship around to go back and scold him.”
“True.” She exhaled with a weary sigh.
“Don’t worry, Zoe. Even if it was them who messed with me, it’s behind us. I’ll never see that sullen little squirt again.” And I wasn’t about to let them cockblock me on the last day of our vacation.
She stared at me with wariness. “I hope not.”
“Of course not,” I assured her. “They’re on an island far from us. We’re increasing our distance by the minute.”
She exhaled. “I guess we have nothing to worry about.”
“Nothing at all,” I dismissed. “Besides, I have better things to focus on.” My gaze slowly rolled down her body and back up to her face.
“Like what?” She tipped her chin down, and her eyes gleamed with anticipation.
“My hot little elf.” I pulled up the bottom of her tank top and kissed her torso.
She released a soft sigh. “Ooh, I like your new focus.”
“Me too,” I murmured as I moved my mouth down.
“Life is never dull with you, Lucas.”
“Good.” I stroked her inner thigh. “I only want to please my stunning mate.” I trailed kisses below her belly button. “Forget about those rambunctious twits hundreds of miles from us and think about your horny dragon.”
