“Next door. I’ll meet up with Sebastian later. Having your best friend live under the same roof as your boyfriend has benefits.”

“You know you could move in here too. I could put in a good word with the owner.” I winked.

“Ha ha.” Gianna smiled. “I’m good. I like my townhouse and having my little oasis to escape to when I need a break from the world.”

“You do have a sweet set up,” I agreed. “You don’t think you and Sebastian will move in together one day?” I pried once more.

Gianna raised her hand. “Nope, we’re talking about your engagement tonight.”

“Meaning you’re not ready.” I laughed, calling her out on her excuse.

She pursed her lips. “For the mating bite and moving in together and committing for life?” She tapped her lips. “No.” She moved her hand down to her chest. “I love him and want to be with him forever. But taking those epic steps? It freaks me out. I’m afraid I’ll lose a part of myself and my freedom. Does that make sense?”

“It does.”

“Do you think that at all?”

“I don’t know, maybe.”

She slapped her forehead. “I am the worst friend ever. Here you are excited about being engaged, and I’m asking the absolute worst questions. Forget I asked.”

“No, it’s a good question.” I smoothed my hands over my lap and picked off tiny pieces of lint from my leggings. “A part of me wonders about all the things involved here. Marrying a vampire poses more than the usual obstacles and questions. He’ll live forever. I’m mortal. Does this mean I should change at some point?”

She tilted her head and studied me with a concerned expression. “Would you?”

I leaned down to pick up my glass of the champagne cocktail and sipped it while I sorted through my thoughts. After I put it back down, I said, “I love Diego and want to be with him. But we don’t have to have all the answers now, especially that massive one. We can figure some of them out along the way.”

“That’s a good way to look at it. Although I know Sebastian is itching to give me the mating bite, I’m still not ready. Yes, I feel bad.” Her lips curled up into a saucy grin. “With him all worked up, though, I can’t complain about the wild sex.”

I lowered my forehead to my hand and shook it. “We almost made it the whole night without talking about sex,” I teased. “That issounlike you.”

She laughed. “Speaking of, how are the sexual romps going?”

“Romps,” I repeated. I dropped my head back on the sofa and groaned. “In all the excitement lately, I haven’t told you about the latest awkward shenanigans.” I swatted her arm. “That’s the last time I go to an adult store with you.”

She clasped her hands. “Ooh, you know I love an awkward story—especially if it involves sexual hijinks. Tell me!”

I pictured my sorry attempt at seducing Diego. “Let’s just say I could never be a dominatrix.”

“What happened?”

I bit my lower lip and sighed. “It was me trying to introduce some light bondage into the bedroom. You know me. I’m sure it’s not too hard to imagine me having a hard time pulling that off.”

Her gaze drifted off with a slight smile. “I can picture it.”

I swatted her and quipped, “You’re supposed to say, ‘No, of course not, Nova. You’re a hot little witch casting off sexual vibes as easy as breathing.’”

She put on a mock serious expression and echoed, “No, of course not, Nova. You’re a hot little witch casting off sexual vibes as easy as breathing.”

“Thanks.” I raised my chin and accepted the teasing compliment before we both broke into laughter.

While we watched the movie, my thoughts drifted back to last night and what I thought I’d seen. I didn’t want to tell Diego and upset him and ruin our special moment, but it was something I could confide about to Gianna.

“Do you want to hear something weird?”

She slanted her head. “The weirder, the better.”

I scrunched my nose. “It’s not the good kind of weird.”
