“That’s it?” I replied. “Fine? I just rambled on about stuff at the Network, and you’re going to give me one word that reveals nada.”

She laughed. “It keeps me busy to keep things running and stocked, and we sometimes have to deal with drunk idiots.” She motioned to the door leading back to where her office was. “I was just dealing with an issue with a delivery. That nonsense and all the financial crap aren’t fun, but I can’t complain. This is my baby. I love it here and love seeing people happy.”

“Cheers to that.” I raised my glass. “I’m so proud of you.”

“Thanks.” She beamed.

It was true. I admired how Gianna had created this life for herself on her terms. She’d had a troubled childhood. Her siren mother abandoned her and her dad soon after Gianna was born. Her father, a former Marine, was tough on her. Gianna had an independent streak a mile long and a rebellious reaction whenever he tried to control her. Put them at odds and their clashes could make those of titans appear mild.

Her father’s marriage to a mega bitch strained Gianna’s relationship with her dad even more. Fortunately, we had each other.

“What about you and Sebastian?” I asked. “How are things there?”

“Spicy.” She raised her hand, bit her bottom lip, and moved her upper body like she was salsa dancing.

Ah, of course my uninhibited half-siren friend would jump right to their sex life.

“What about how things are going in your relationship? Like taking things to the next level and what not.” Since seeing how crazy they were for each other the other night and comparing it to Diego and my more reserved way with affection, I’d spent a lot of time thinking about relationships.

Gianna frowned. “Oh, I don’t know why people rush things like that. We’re having a splendid time. We take care of each other and don’t take each other for granted. I like the way things are. Why spoil the honeymoon with a reality slap?”

I chuckled. “So, I guess that’s a no. I’m sure Diego and Lucas will be glad that Sebastian isn’t leaving anytime soon.”

“Not at my request,” Gianna replied with a laugh. She leaned back and raised one hand over the back of the seat cushion. “Speaking of spice, how are the bedroom antics with Diego?”

Here we go, my awkward confession…

I groaned. “Antics is sadly an appropriate way to describe it.”

“Why?”

I lowered my head to my hands. “Yeah, well, I tried the strip tease, and uh… It was a bit of a mishap.”

“No!” Gianna’s eyes widened. She reached across the table and touched my forearm. “What happened?”

I hunched my shoulders and then released them. “It didn’t go well.”

“Spill the story, my friend.” Gianna’s eyes gleamed with a salacious glint. “Spill that tale like you’re pouring out that juicy drink.”

“Hold on.” I took a huge gulp of my drink to convince myself I had liquid courage before I revealed making an ass out of myself. “See, well I figured I’d keep it simple with the striptease. I put on a little dress, I moved with the music. I thought it was going fine.”

“It wasn’t?”

My lips pursed. “I mean that part was okay. Diego didn’t point and laugh or anything like that. It felt pretty hot.” I exhaled. “But when I tried to strut over to him, being all seductive and all, I tripped on the edge of the rug and landed hard. Gravity wasn’t my friend that night.”

“No!”

“Yes. It was bloody painful.”

“Eek, that must have been a mood killer.”

“So I thought,” I replied. “Party over and goodnight.” I raised my index finger. “But I started bleeding—and I was with a vampire. You can put two and two together.”

“And make five?” She chuckled. “Oh damn, are we talking kinky blood play?”

I arched my brows. “Do you really want to know?”

“No.” She cringed. “Yes.” She brought her fingers together. “It sounds like a train wreck that you can’t avoid staring at.”
