Diego

Ijerked at movement in the sky. Narrowing my gaze in the darkness, I recognized the shape of dragon wings flapping above.

It had to be Lucas.

Diana’s eyes flashed wider as she stared at the dragon flying toward us. Humans wouldn’t see him approach as he had magic that could cloak him, but it didn’t work on most supernaturals. Her expression froze with apprehension. The flap of his broad wingspan was impressive, but perhaps frightening to someone who hadn’t seen a dragon in flight before.

“Don’t worry, honey. It’s just my roommate. Nothing to fear.”

She turned to me. “Diego, we should head inside. Fast.”

“What’s the hurry?” Sebastian trotted over to us, emerging from the shadows of a nearby building.

I gritted my teeth. “Damn it, dude, you’re still following me?”

“Don’t go in yet, Diego. Lucas and I need to talk to you.”

“About what?” I snorted. “More nonsense and insults.”

“Stop being so damn stubborn and listen to us,” Sebastian insisted.

I scowled at him but didn’t argue. Turning to Diana, I grunted. “Let’s see what my dumbass roommates want. Maybe they want to apologize about being asses.”

“We’re trying to save you from making a horrific mistake, you boneheaded corpse,” Sebastian noted.

I tried to remember his previous warnings about Diana, but it was clouded.

“Once again, you’re talking gibberish.” I flapped my hands open and closed imitating talking. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Why don’t you ask her?” He raised his index finger and pointed to Diana.

“Hey.” I lifted my hand, palm forward. “I already warned you. Don’t mess with my girl.”

“She’snotyour girl.” Sebastian gnashed his teeth together and turned away with disgust. “She’s cursed you, man. And I wish I knew the fuck how to make you wake up and see it.”

“Stop accusing me of rubbish, mongrel,” Diana snapped at him, baring fangs.

I raised both my hands and then pressed them downward. “Hey, hey, hey, let’s all play nice.”

Lucas landed with a soft thud, displacing some pebbles. He crouched down as he shifted to human form.

My freaking roommates. “Dude, put on some clothes, will ya?”

“That’s what I’m doing.” Crouched over with his bare ass in profile, Lucas fidgeted with a sack and pulled on a pair of loose-fitting gray shorts. He stood upright. “Howdy.” His broad smile better fit entering a party, not intruding into my personal life.

“Why are you here too?” I rolled my eyes to the stars. “Can’t a guy head out on a date with his girl without his damn roommates interfering?” I reached out and squeezed Diana’s hand.

Lucas snorted. “Yeah, if thatwasyour girl.”

Damn it, that was what Sebastian had said.

Diana snarled and bared fangs as she lunged for Lucas.

I stepped in between them and spread my arms. Sebastian bounded at the same time, and we tripped over each other. Both of us landed on the ground. As I tried to stand, he did as well, and we ended up yanking each other down.

Lucas chuckled. “It’s like watching the Upper-class Twit of the Year challenge.”

I growled. Although I loved a good Monty Python reference, it wasn’t when I was bumbling over my ass in front of my girl.
