I was so worked up after that strange woman left. Who the hell was she and how did she get into the house?

The only thing I could think of was Lucas and Sebastian playing a prank.

Not cool. I went down to the basement to get out some aggression. Sebastian, Lucas, and I had set up instruments down here and had soundproofed the area somewhat so we could jam. Although that didn’t happen often, drumming was still a key way for me to get out of my head. Nothing like pounding out your frustrations by banging on something that actually sounded half decent. It was better than punching a wall.

I put my phone aside while I tried to forget everything but drums. Practicing some of my usual songs, I played “Take Me Out,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and “Iron Man.”

About a half-an-hour later, Lucas and Sebastian came down. “Good plan.” Lucas picked up his guitar. He wore a black Misfits shirt with a white skull. His blond hair was long enough now that he pulled it into a low ponytail. At least it wasn’t a man bun. I’d told him that if he started wearing one, I’d start calling him Princess Leia. “She has two buns, dumb ass,” he’d retorted. The technicalities didn’t matter.

“We don’t do this often enough.” Sebastian picked up his bass and strummed. He appeared more like a lumberjack than a rock star with his full beard and brown flannel shirt and jeans.

The strange woman who’d invaded my room came to mind, but I’d hold off on bringing that up. Like Sebastian said, we didn’t jam together often enough, and I wasn’t going to let that woman ruin it as well as my mood. Besides, the reason why I came down here wasnotto think about that.

“Let’s play ‘You’re All I’ve Got Tonight.’” Lucas played the opening guitar riff.

“Yeah, hold up.” I started playing, and Sebastian joined in.

We often played classic or alternative rock down here. Although we weren’t good enough to play in a club, we’d come along to be semi-decent for roommates playing in our basement. It was better than losing countless hours as we played video games but that depended on who you asked.

After we went through a half dozen songs, including the ones I’d practiced on by myself earlier, we took a break. I’d broken a decent sweat and ran upstairs to take a swig from a blood pouch.

When I returned to the basement, I asked, “Did one of you send that woman to my room earlier?”

“What woman?” Sebastian asked.

Lucas also denied it.

We were going to have to look into a better security system than witch spells if strangers could penetrate that protective barrier.

“You won’t believe what happened.” I sat behind the drums and picked up my drumsticks. “A woman who I’d never seen before was here in the apartment. She came up to my room and tried to seduce me.”

“Ha, that sounds like the start of a bad porn.” Lucas picked up his guitar and strummed. “Bow-chicka-wow-wow.”

I arched my brows. “It wasn’t evenremotelyfunny. A strange woman invaded my personal space.”

Lucas lowered his guitar. “What did she look like?”

“About yay tall.” I stood and slanted my hand near chest level with the drumstick. “Reddish-brown hair.”

Sebastian raised his chin. “Sounds just like Nova.”

My eyes bulged wide. “You know her?”

Sebastian blinked at me. “What?”

“Nova.” I wagged my index finger. It was all falling into place. “Ah ha, I knew you two were involved!”

“What are you talking about?” Lucas asked.

“You’re messing with me,” I said.

“How?” Sebastian furrowed his brows.

“Fine, you got me,” I admitted, spreading both hands. “Ugh, I should have figured out that it was a prank right away.”

Sebastian narrowed his gaze. “Did you hit your head?”

“It wasn’t a good prank. Not at all funny and definitely not cool.” I shook my head. “Sometimes you take things too far.”
