Gianna raised her chin. “What were you doing down there?”

Damn, she was good, steering the question to the one on my mind despite being rattled by the demon’s threats.

His eyes gleamed with a reddish glow. “Join us and see.” He turned and headed back to the bench, waving his hand as he walked away. “See you soon, siren. Real soon.”

Back up in my office,Gianna was shaking. She pulled her knees up to her chest and rocked while Nova went to the kitchen to prepare her a cup of tea.

“You were incredible down there, Gianna,” I commended her.

“Then why am I trembling?”

“That’s natural. You faced your fear just as you wanted to and provided so much valuable information. I’m so grateful and proud of you. You were so brave.”

She bit her lip. “I don’t feel like it. I’m terrified. What if those things he said are true?”

“That’s why we’re here—to learn all we can and stop it from happening. You provided critical information.”

She snorted. “How so?”

“We know who we’re dealing with. Those demons and likely the sirens are still in the area, plotting to take over. We now have a better idea of where they’re hiding out.”

“Near Lucas’s club?”

“Right.” The muscles in my neck tensed. I placed my hand on her shoulder. “And the only reason we found that out is because of you.”

After Nova returned with Gianna’s tea, she drank it and calmed down. Nova drove her back to the house as Gianna didn’t want to be alone that night—or in the near future.

I summarized what I learned to Pandora and Cassandra. My expression must have matched my grave tone.

“Do you think he’s telling the truth?” Pandora asked.

“Unfortunately, yes.”

Cassandra’s lips twitched. “He’s so arrogant, bragging about what they’re capable of.”

“Shit.” Pandora slammed her hand on the mahogany table.

“They’re up to something near Lucas’s club,” I added. “I need to warn him.”

“Yes.” Pandora gave me a somber nod.

“Maybe that’s where the portal is,” Cassandra suggested.

My heart slammed against my ribs. Fuck.

I needed to warn Lucas right away.

Chapter 14

Zoe

Lucas didn’t answer his phone. Of course not, he was at work. I retrieved the black wig I’d used as part of my disguise the last time I’d been at the club and then drove there.

When I entered, I found a spot in the back and ordered a drink. Lucas wasn’t out on the main floor, so I scanned the area. Were any sirens in the club? I scanned every woman at every table, searching for tall beauties like Gianna. It wasn’t easy with the women sitting down. I scanned every man who danced. Could one of them be a demon who’d changed his appearance? Were they able to mask their scents?

I discovered nothing and slammed my fist on the cushion. Why were they always a step ahead?

When Lucas came on stage, my gaze homed in on him. Every sinuous move of his muscles captured my attention. Although this wasn’t new, a bothersome sense of possessiveness slithered beneath my skin. All the woman hollering for him, vying for his attention, and sticking dollar bills into his G-string drove a dagger of jealously through me. This wasn’t helpful. These unhealthy emotions didn’t help me on this case and distracted me from what I needed to be doing.
