“Sure.” Somehow, I managed a nonchalant shrug that belied the tremors of excitement darting about inside.

Diego played an episode on the TV. “The Ministry of Silly Walks. This is classic.”

I watched the unfamiliar skit, somewhat confused, while the rest of them howled with laughter. When I caught on, I turned to Lucas. A wide smile lingered. He put his arm around me.

I settled against him as it felt nice. The next one was about the Spanish Inquisition. Sure, the sketch was ludicrous and funny, but I was more tickled by Lucas’s reaction. His laugh was contagious, and the more he did so, the more I enjoyed myself.

When it ended, Nova said, “I’m ready for bed.”

Diego raised a hand. “But I have the entire collection on DVD.”

“Another time.” Nova smiled and waved. “Good night, everyone.”

“I’m coming.” Diego stood and followed Nova to her apartment.

Sebastian and Gianna then left, saying they were going to her place. That left me alone with Lucas.

As flashes of last night replayed in my mind, heat rose to my cheeks. I turned to Lucas.

He flashed his signature devilish grin that made me wobbly. “You’re not going to leave me, too, are you?”

My heart thumped louder in my ears. “No. I’m having too much fun.”

A decadent gleam flickered in his eyes. “Want to have more fun upstairs?”

I tipped my head. “Only if you catch me, dragon.” As I dashed to the stairs, I was aware of my flirting. How unlike me. Lucas’s playful personality was contagious and helped pull me out of my reserved nature.

He chased me up the stairs. “Oh, yeah. Let’s play, my feisty elf.” He swatted my ass.

I squealed and raced into his room, wild excitement rising within.

He tossed me onto his bed. I laughed and squirmed beneath him.

Lucas then caught my wrists and stared down at me, fire burning in his smoldering eyes.

My heart pounded as I waited with breathless anticipation. Impatience drove me to beg, “Kiss me.”

His lips curved with sensual promise. He bent down and kissed my lips and pulled a hair’s width away. “Here.” He moved down to my neck and kissed along my throat. “Here.” He moved down the front of my body and kissed above my breasts. “And everywhere.”

After Zoe left the next morning, I moped around for a bit, unsure of what to do with myself. I went for a walk and headed to an antique store where I sometimes found good records. That afternoon, I found Diego and Sebastian as they played video games in the living room.

Sebastian paused the game. A knowing glint gleamed in his eyes. “You and Zoe are getting close.”

“Yeah, maybe,” I replied.

“What’s going on?” Diego put down his controller.

“Nothing.” I rolled one shoulder. “We’re just hanging out.”

“And?” Sebastian raised one hand palm up.

“There is noand,” I replied.

“Please.” He cocked his head. “We’re not blind.”

“What do you mean?” I sat on the couch.
