“Twist my arm,” she declared with a grin.

I faked the gesture and beamed at Sebastian. “We’ll share one.”

My stare followed him as he walked back into the kitchen.

“What’s going on with you two?” Nova asked.

Dragging my gaze back to Nova, I said, “We’re just friends.”

“Who sleep together.” She prodded with raised brows.

“Sometimes.” I shrugged.

“Can it lead to something more?” she asked.

I made a doubtful sound and followed it with a dismissive wave. “With me?”

“Yeah, why not?”

“I’m not the relationship type.”

“Maybe that was before you met the right person.”

That was something to think about. Was that why I’d never been interested in a relationship before now?

“Even if that is a remote possibility,” I dismissed, “It’s the worst possible time. I can’t deny I’m having some sort of identity crisis questioning everything since my mother arrived.”

Nova sipped her wine. “I know she’s created some turmoil, but I like seeing you together.”

“You do?” I leaned back in the chair.

She tipped her head. “Yeah. You both seem—happy.”

I blinked a couple of times. Was there any truth to that?

“Maybe you should go out on a date with him,” Nova suggested.

My fingers rubbed at the napkin on my lap. “I don’t want to be in a relationship.” I’d repeated that line many times lately, it seemed. This was the first time it rang hollow.

“You don’t have to label it as such,” Nova encouraged.

Dating added a complication I didn’t need in my life right now. Relationships were complex. But when we all spent time together at their house, we had a great time.

We had an evenbettertime alone in his room that night.

"How about the four of us go out together?” I suggested. “You, me, Diego, and Sebastian?"

"Ooh, like a double date?" Nova gushed with wide eyes. "That would be so much fun."

I drummed my fingers on my lap. “Didn’t you just saynotto label it?”

“Ah, yeah,” she admitted. “Okay, we’ll all go out. It’s not a date, just fun. Let’s do it!”

Although I’d been busy in the hot kitchen preparing dish after dish, I'd checked on Gianna more than necessary. I couldn't stay away from Gianna for long with her under the same roof.

How could I ignore the urge to take care of her? I loved to feed others, so much so that I made it my life’s passion. Sharing a meal brought people together. It was one of life’s pleasures. Naturally, that would be even more so with my mate.
