At the end, Sebastian and Diego sang along to “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” while Nova and I chuckled.
Once the credits rolled, I stood. “I’m going to get going.”
Sebastian jumped to his feet. “I can walk you out.”
“That’s not necessary. My car is right in the driveway.” I pointed outside.
His expression turned down. “Oh.”
A twinge of sympathy rose. He’d been considerate in preparing all this food, and we’d had a good time hanging out watching the movie. “Everything was delicious, Sebastian. Thanks.”
He perked up again. “Glad you liked it. Once again, I’m sorry about the other night.”
“Apology accepted.” I smiled. “Tell you what, we’re having a New Year’s Eve party at the club next week. If you’re not doing anything—and able to keep your hands to yourself,” I added with a grin. “You and Lucas should come.”
His eyes brightened, and he nodded. “I’ll be there.”
After I thanked them for having me and said goodnight, Nova walked with me outside.
“I hope it wasn’t too weird with Sebastian,” she said. “I’ve never seen him act this way around anyone. He must have a little crush on you.”
“It’s fine. It was harmless.” I quirked a smile.
“I’m surprised you invited him back to the club.”
“He’s been trying so hard to make up for it, I can’t hold it against him forever.” I shrugged one shoulder. “Besides, he’s kind of cute.”
“Really? You think so?”
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to hook up with him.”
“What?” Nova blinked in surprise. “I didn’t say anything about that.”
“I’m just saying—he’s kind of hot. If it was a one-night thing, I wouldn’t mind giving it a go.” That was another thing I attributed to my siren side—my hearty libido. I pushed some hair behind my ears. “But we may cross paths often through you and Diego, so it’s not a good idea. And since I’ve already seen his possessive side, that’s a hell no.”
Sebastian
The days counting down until New Year’s Eve stretched on as the longest of the year, yet I had to be patient. Gianna had invited me back to her club, and I wouldn’t blow it this time.
When I walked into the Danger Zone with Lucas, Diego, and Nova, my hands turned clammy.
Diego and Nova walked ahead, arm in arm. I was still surprised to see him with anyone. He'd been a reclusive vampire ever since we’d met. His vampire lover had turned him and stopped his heart before breaking it. I didn’t blame him for being wary, but how long could a guy brood at home? Fortunately, Nova came along and smacked some life back into his dead heart.
Whitesnake's “Still of the Night” played as we entered, the sound echoing around us.
Sensing she was close, my wolf tensed and took notice. I shook out my limbs.
Lucas leaned over. "Are you good?”
"Peachy.” I'd taken my wolf out every night this week to burn through his agitation. I had to. Ever since Gianna had left our house, I’d been consumed by the promise of seeing her tonight. My wolf hadn’t realized the error of confusing her as our mate. In fact, he was more insistent than ever.
“What happened the last time I was here will not happen again,” I promised. “Tonight, I will be smooth as your waxed chest, my friend."
Lucas chuckled. An exotic dancer, he often spent more time manscaping than I did to get himself in prime visual form before he went to dance on stage for the ladies. Then again, a dragon shifter wasn’t cursed with as much hair as a wolf, so aside from his long blond hair, he probably didn’t have as much to deal with.
"Shall we put some money on you getting kicked out again?" Lucas proposed.
"I don't think so." I’d already lost twenty bucks to him the last time I’d seen her.
