“Sebastian, wait for us. You don’t know if they’re dangerous.”
“Or if Gianna’s in danger,” I added. “No way in hell am I going to wait to find out.”
I ended the call. My wolf pushed me to burst through the front door and protect our mate.
Calm down,I urged. We don’t know the situation. There might be nothing to fear.
My words seemed hollow. Something felt wrong, and I wouldn’t rest easy until I saw that Gianna was okay.
I knocked on the door. After I counted to thirty with no reply, I pounded on it some more.
A man answered. He stood well over six-feet tall with blond hair and appraised me from cold eyes. His scent wasn’t that of a human but not one I could identify either.
“I’m here to see Gianna,” I said without any introduction.
This dude raised a brow and then sniffed. “She’s unavailable, wolf.” He pushed the door closed.
I put my foot in the doorway, preventing him from shutting the door. So, he knew what I was. “I’m not leaving until I see her.”
He narrowed his cold eyes with amusement. “That’s not going to happen.”
My wolf growled, his shoulders rising at this man he perceived as a threat.
Yes, we’re going after her,I promised. I wouldn’t leave without making sure she was okay. I didn’t care if she damned me to hell and cursed me out. She’d already done that. What did I have to lose? I’d already lost her, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t fight like hell to protect her.
“Where is she?” Without waiting for a reply, I pushed the door open. “Gianna!”
Gianna
Sebastian?
It couldn’t be him here, now, could it? Was it this demon screwing with my head?
Jakob had dragged me to the back of the house and tied me to the handles of the French doors. He then detailed all the vile things he wanted to do to torment me, escalating my terror for his perverse pleasure.
“Sebastian, I’m in here!” My throat burned. I’d screamed for help until it had turned raw.
Jakob grabbed my neck, increasing the pain. He seethed as he glared at me. “Careful, siren. You don’t want to piss me off.”
Or what, he’d torture me? He’d already outlined that in excruciating detail, relishing how it made me perspire. He even licked my puckered goose flesh. Ewww. I shuddered once more.
He tightened his hold, so I couldn’t respond with something snarky—even if I’d thought of a good comeback. Instead, I gasped for breath.
The door splintered into the room like it had been exploded. Sebastian kicked it in and stepped inside. His eyes glowed with feral anger.
If I wasn’t restrained, I’d hug him. I’d never been so happy to see anyone, ever.
The brown of his eyes glowed a fierce amber. When his gaze locked on mine, my heart quickened. He came for me.
He turned to Jakob. “Let go of her now,” he demanded in a low, dangerous tone that promised retribution to anyone who refused him.
Jakob stepped in front of me and snarled. “You must be the wolf she’s been screwing.” He flared his nostrils. “Making her smell like wet dog.”
Sebastian growled in response.
“She’s moved on to bigger—and better,” Jakob mocked.
Sebastian’s expression turned feral, reminding me of the first time I’d seen him like this in the club, but far more dangerous.
