“We were just talking about you,” Nova said. “You okay, Sebastian?”

I lowered my head. “Sorry I was an ass last night.”

“What got into you, man?” Diego drank from his mug and the familiar blood-tinged coffee fragrance wafted over.

I scowled as I sat in an armchair. “It was my wolf. You know I’m not like that.”

“What was it about Gianna’s scent?” Nova asked. “You kept talking about it.”

“My wolf was confused,” I explained.

Inside, he snorted in disagreement.

“Maybe it was her siren blood,” Nova said. “Guys are drawn to her and can act—” She turned her hand palm up. “Well, like dumbasses.” She smiled.

That pretty much nailed it. “Maybe,” I answered in a noncommittal tone. “Don’t worry, Nova. I’m a lover, not a fighter.” I gestured to myself and grinned.

“Could have fooled me,” she replied in a sing-song voice.

True. My actions didn’t back up my words. “Is she pissed at me?”

“She was last night,” Nova replied. “I texted her this morning, but she hasn’t replied yet.”

“Of course she is,” Diego added. “You started a brawl at her club.”

A low vibration rumbled from my chest.

Diego scoffed. “Don’t growl at me.” He put his mug down on a coaster.

“I’m not growling at you. Just letting off some steam.” I turned back to Nova. “When are you going to see her again?”

“No plans at the moment.” Nova shrugged. “But probably soon.”

“How soon?”

“Easy, Sebastian,” she replied. “What’s with the rush?”

“I want to apologize about my behavior last night.”

Nova sipped from her mug. “I can pass on the message.”

“It’s better in person.”

Nova assessed me while she held the mug in both hands, as if savoring the warmth. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

“Why not?”

“Do we have to remind you how you were escorted out on your ass last night?” Diego said.

I raised my hand. “Hence, the apology I’m trying to make.”

“We’ll see,” Nova said. “I’m busy with the Network and preparing for the Winter Solstice.”

She was being trained to work at the Salem Supernatural Network while also working virtually for a children’s editor in New York. I’d met Diego and Lucas through the Network as they helped supernaturals find housing and jobs in a human world.

“Gianna will be busy preparing for a New Year’s Eve bash at the club,” Nova added.

Oh, that could be a perfect opportunity to see Gianna again, although next week seemed so far away. “Are you going?”
