In his living room,Grayson sat beside Aurora as the warmth from the fire heated them. He’d been fretting over her since they’d returned, unable to stop touching her and reassuring himself that his mate was okay. Even more than that, she’d returned to his home with him. The solace in having her there was more comforting than anything he could imagine. Even his wolf settled down inside now that the restlessness was gone.

Aurora held a mug of hot cocoa in both hands and told him what had happened over at the Sacco lodge.

Grayson rubbed his hands over his temples, an attempt to calm his anger. “I can’t believe Victoria betrayed us that way.” He shook his head. There were more important things to focus on, namely that both Aurora and he were alive and together once more, something that seemed impossible not too long before. He caressed her soft cheek and stared at her with wonder. “I’m relieved you’re safe and here with me again. How you blocked her with your magic was amazing.”

A surprised laugh escaped her. “I didn’t know I could summon the wind to that extent until that moment. I’ve never used magic in that way before.” She blinked a few times. “I never had to.” She shrugged. “I’ve never been in a fight.”

“We can surprise ourselves when we’re under duress.”

She gazed at him with eyes wide. “Especially when someone we love is being threatened.”

Grayson blinked. Did he hear her correctly? “Love?”

“Yes, Grayson,” she replied. “One thing I realized today is how short and precious life is. If you’re lucky enough to find the one you want to be with, you shouldn’t waste it. So I don’t want to put my life on hold any longer. I love you and want to be your mate.”

Grayson couldn’t believe he was hearing those words. Aurora loved him and agreed to be his mate?

He stood and offered his hand to her. She put her mug down and took his hand. When she rose, he embraced her and spun her in his arms. He never thought he could be so happy.

His wolf pranced inside, jubilant. Our mate.

When Grayson put her back on her feet, she stared at him with bright eyes.

“I love you, Aurora. My mate.”

He bent his head and kissed her, and the sense of wonder filled him. Despite all the chaos outside, a new calm settled inside him.

As he deepened the kiss, the intensity rose. They grasped at each other, unleashing all the yearning they’d forced themselves to restrain from when they’d been apart. No more. Aurora came first. He’d put her before anyone else, including himself.

He touched her wherever he could reach and backed her into his room. They fell together onto his bed, passion exploding as they tore off each other’s clothes and ran their hands over each other’s bodies. He couldn’t contain the need to show her what she meant to him, and he kissed all over her soft flesh. The scent of her growing desire made him harder than ever, stirring the temptation to taste her before he buried himself inside her luscious body.

Sliding down between her legs, he licked her succulent flesh, and she moaned.

“Grayson.” Her voice turned husky with want.

He savored her sweet tang and slipped his fingers inside her to heighten her pleasure. She ran her hands through his hair. Soon, she was writhing beneath him, her sighs growing louder.

As he brought her to the edge, her body arched and muscles tightened. Incoherent sounds escaped her. He increased the pressure, sending her spiraling. Her body shuddered, and she cried out his name.

After the strongest of her quakes subsided, he quickly covered himself with a condom and slipped inside her.

“Damn, you’re so wet, Aurora.”

“Yes,” she murmured. “I believe you have something to do with that.”

“Hope so.” He covered her mouth with his, tangling his tongue with hers as he slowly sank inside her. She wrapped her arms and legs around him, welcoming him in.

A rumble emanated from his chest. “You’re so tight. Feel so good.”

Once he was buried to the hilt inside his mate, he paused. A strange sense of being complete came over him. That’s what being loved by his mate felt like—she was his home.

The urge to drive in and out of her grew stronger—as did the compulsion to claim her. His fangs emerged, itching with the desire to mark his mate.

Now,his wolf urged.She’s the one.

Grayson knew that, but she wasn’t a wolf shifter. He had to wait until she was comfortable with that, if ever.
