“That’s all I can ask.” I put my arms around him.
“So can we talk about something else for a moment? If you’re happy with my word, that is.”
“Don’t get sassy.” I looked at him.
We both laughed.
“Go ahead.”
“Do I have your permission to talk about our last encounter? The one before the fight?”
“You do.” I inclined my head formally.
“I’ve been with many women—”
“Not the way to start.” I rolled my eyes.
“And with all that, I’ve never felt this way. I could feel you, feel your emotions. It was hard. I’m used to looking into the minds of those that I wish, but I didn’t with you. And I’d like to.”
“You’d like to what?” I didn’t understand.
“I’d like to share with you, if you’ll let me. I know it’s kind of razzle dazzle, but I really want to know what you’re thinking.”
His breath warmed me, and the look of desire in his eyes sent flames licking at my center.
“You’ll let me see you the same way?”
He nodded.
“But nothing else? No other razzle dazzle? Just you and me?”
“Only you and me, Roxy.”
I took a breath. “Okay. But I’m going to insist on taking my time with you.”
I was nervous. A little scared. And hella excited.
“I can live with that. We have plenty of time.” His grin took on a wolfish air.
We didn’t leave my room for the rest of the day.
And he was right. It was amazing.
Before we fell asleep, I agreed that a little razzle dazzle wasn’t always a bad thing. To see within him, when he… when I… there weren’t words. I didn’t want to put it into words.
Only live it and feel it. With him. With Z.
I was smiling as I drifted off against his chest, listening to the beat of his heart.
Epilogue
Two Months Later
Z
Iwatched the other team, my eyes scanning for anything out of the ordinary, anything extra. After we’d been dating a while, Pete, the owner of the bar, came to me himself and told me that family pitched in and that the next practice was at six. I showed up. I scanned the field once more. No one with anything extra. Just us humans. The thought made me grin. I mean, I was extra, but no one other than Roxy had any idea. Just thinking about her made me turn and look at the woman who had become the only woman I’d ever loved.
As though she could feel my gaze, Roxy glanced over at me and smiled. Her expression was open, with no reserve, with nothing but love.
