“Youlied,” I hiss, breaking free of his grip and backing away from him. “You told me you’d make sure I went somewhere safe. And then you… left.”

“I know,” he murmurs. “I know, and I’m sorry. I will do everything to make it up to you.”

Before I can tell him where he can shove his apology, Igid comes from out of nowhere, taking down a security guard neither of us noticed coming from behind. A well-placed punch to his temple, followed by a good thump against the ground, knocks him out cold.

“If you two are finished, we can’t stay here,” she barks at us.

Without giving me a chance to fight him, Rovos scoops me into his arms, and we’re running.

Rovos

My Annah is a warrior!

It shouldn’t surprise me.

In one breath, she tells me she killed to escape Volethos, and with the next she’s calling me anass-holefor not protecting her.

My heart clenches at the thought of just how close I came to losing her. At what could’ve happened if she wasn’t the brave warrior I know she is.

I don’t deserve her, because she’s right. I am anass-hole.

She weighs practically nothing with her arms locked around my neck and her head tucked under my chin. I run through the station as though hell-beasts are chasing us. Considering how things are going, they might be before this is over. At least for the moment, I know she’s safe. That I didn’t lose her.

My Annah may appear docile for the moment, but I can feel her restrained anger seething just below the surface. Anger directed at me. Anger I deserve. Maybe I should be more concerned. Instead, I can’t stop grinning. It’s this fire of hers that makes my heart pound and my cock stiffen. It makes me want more of her intoxicatingkeeses.More of the sweet cream between her legs.

It makes me want to claim her so no one else can take her from me.

“Rovos, wait!” Igid shouts from behind us.

I glance over my shoulder and stop when I see the pinched look on her face.

“They triggered an alert,” she huffs when she’s caught up with us. “Volethos knows my ship, so I’m sure he has someone watching it. You will have to find another way off the station.”

I nod as I run through my options. “What about you?”

“I won’t leave theShade.”

I figured that would be the case.

“I’ll do my best to keep security off your tail while you find a shuttle.”

“Get in touch with Sone and Treto as soon as you’re able. If I’m unable to reach them, fill them in on everything that’s happened.” I look down at Annah, who is listening to us. “We’ll meet in the Green Zone—”

“Security. Halt!”

The three of us turn to see a group of security guards running toward us.

“Go!” Igid shouts. “I’ll slow them down.”

Pulling my blaster from its hidden holster I toss it to her. “Good hunting.”

She flashes me a toothy grin before turning to run toward the security detail while I escape in the opposite direction.

My legs eat up the distance as I sprint through the open vestibule, leaving the sharp zaps of blaster fire and pain-filled grunts behind us. I turn down the first passage we come to, immediately followed by the next, which spits us into another open chamber.

I slow my strides but don’t relax the tension roped through my shoulders and thighs. In my arms, I feel Annah’s body relax.
