I wanted to believe she feltsomething, though.

That maybe her body recognized me, but her mind pushed back on the notion. Maybe there was a battle going on inside of her right now, and only I could determine the winner.

“Why’d you follow me?”

She dropped her hand and put distance between us.

“Because I missed you,” I told her truthfully. “Do you want me to kill whoever did that to your lip?”

Forever scoffed.

She’d tried covering it up with a darker color, but there wasn’t shit about her I wouldn’t notice, including that someone had clearly put their hands on her.

Eliel, if I had to guess.

“Your name holds a little weight, but you could never kill the man who did this to me.”

If you remembered me, you’d know that’s not true.

The version of Forever standing in front of me was how I met her. She thought back then I was up to no good, even though it’d been her who came to me first.

Just like she’d come to me twice so far since losing her memories.

“Tell me his name and I’ll bring you his head by the end of next week.”

She laughed and shook her head, but it was the flinch that caught my attention.

“It’s your head hurting you, isn’t it?”

I went to take a step forward but stopped myself and took one back instead, ready to retreat after saying too much, too soon.

“They’re all lying to you, and I know you feel something isn’t right. I think your head is trying to tell you,” I said softly, taking in how the maroon dress she wore hugged every part of her body I missed. “If you want, I can fill in the gaps.”

She looked so confused. So fucking lost, and there wasn’t shit I could do but make her fall in love with me again.

Make her choose me again.

Usagain.

“What’s your end game?”

“Come see me again and find out.”

With more willpower than I cared to have, I turned away from the love of my life.

Once Violet made her next move, Forever would seek me out again.

It’s what I had to tell myself to keep from going around my carefully laid out plans.

One step at a time, Echo.

CHAPTER 11

FOREVER

I hatednothing more than a subordinate who didn’t take me seriously. Especially one that’d come up under my father’s reign.

“I’ve been working on my stance?” I said, my favorite golf club in hand.
