Impossible promises. Mind games. It all made Hermosa fascinating yet dangerous. “What do you want?”
“I want a uniform. Just like yours.”
CHAPTER 30
Time to work.We needed those uniforms to survive; Sunny needed a reminder that I was a badmamasota: win-win situation. I couldn’t resist trailing my hand down his arm, pretending I was pointing out his uniform. I gasped when his thick muscle jumped at my touch.
“You want my suit? Impossible.”
“I have come to learn in my short life that anything is possible, if you want it enough.” I winked.
“No.”
“Why are you even worried about it? You don’t believe in magic, right? And besides. I’m just a pathological liar anyway. Nothing I say has any meaning.” I couldn’t look at him while I said those words. They actually hurt a little bit.
Damn.
He placed his thumbs under my chin and tapped softly, guiding my gaze to his. He studied my frosty expression for a few beats longer than necessary. Trying to figure me out. “You cannot best me, earther.”
Watch me.
“Proceed.”
Confidence restored, I stood on tiptoe and whispered in his ear, “No one can spy on us up here, can they?”
“Do you not hear the earthers cackling with my Second?” Sunny stared at the group, who went silent upon his death glare. “Why do they say they want popcorn to watch the event?”
Of course they do.Because they know I’m about toput on a show. “I’m talking about other types of surveillance. I wouldn’twant your supreme to see you lose.” I brushed imaginary lint off his shoulder. “Because there’s no way we aren’t being monitored. We’re prisoners. How many times do I have to tell you—”
“I amnota prisoner.” Sunny’s broad chest rumbled as he clenched his fists.
“Hello, First. What goes here?” Loxo’s face popped over the top of Sunny’s shoulder, peering down at me as I glared at my grumpy alien.
“Hey, chica,” Nieve said, with Nheenya and Querida next to her. “We couldn’t stop Loxo from coming over. Sorry.”
“I’m trying to educate Sunny here.” I slapped my hand against his chest and lingered just a little too long. “Someone’s always watching.”
“True. But watching what?” Nieve twirled a curl. “You guys gonna get busy?”
“Now that he has a dick.” Querida’s soft voice clashed with her raised brow.
“Beautiful ones,” Loxo’s eyes went wide, “I have explained that is a fallacy. You see our rods—”
All of the women groaned, successfully shutting him up. That alien could talk a girl’s ear off.
“I was just telling Sunny over here…” I began.
“Not my name.”
“…that magical powers do exist.” I bent at the waist and twirled my hand for dramatics.
“If you meanbrujeria, then yeah, she’s your girl. Total witch,” Nieve laughed out loud.
Loxo sucked in a breath and asked, “You have magical powers? Do you all possess such abilities?” His gaze immediately snagged on Querida. Both eyes swirled, which was a bit terrifying. I didn’t like it when the red one got going.
“You are truly blessed by the stars,” Nheenya said.
“Of course, we have magical powers. We’re still here, aren’t we?” Nieve studied her nails, smiling with the tiniest tilt of her lips.
