“Truth.” He squeezed his eyes shut. “I know there must be a way to reconcile these two parts of my life. One where I can keep my vows, but also protect you. I have pledged my life to the supreme. This pledge brings me purpose. Pride.”
“But what if what Veras is saying is true? He said they’re making a clone army. That you and the other warriors have the same memories because the Aavvee implanted them. None of it is real. You’ll never get to leave here!”
His shoulders tensed, and he looked away.

This is all I’ll say.” I took a deep breath. “Tomorrow, if my sister is here, I will doanythingI haveto, to save her. Do you understand? Anything.” Even leave with her, to keep her safe. “She’s kind and silly and so sweet. She’s not as strong as me, not physically. Every other way, she’s a hundred times better.”
“Not possible.”
“It’s true. She’s everything pure and good in my life.” My voice broke. “It’s my job to take care of her. Just like you watch over your warriors. Do you understand?”
Sunny searched my eyes, and I saw the moment he grasped the weight of my words. Instead of railing at me, he tipped up his chin. “I understand responsibilities. More than you know.
