I’ve been sitting here for the last couple of hours, just watching. She doesn’t know the monster that lurks in the shadows. She doesn’t know the dangers that surround her, my naive little rabbit.

It had been hours of me sitting, mesmerized by her work ethic. If I was smart, I’d study too, but fuck that. She’s so much more fun.

My jaw clenches as I watch another man approach her. Oh, this motherfucker just signed his death certificate. I grit my teeth as he sits there and stares. I’ll rip his fucking eyes out. Extremely painful, but won’t cause death. Lucky for me because then I’ll have more time to play.

My hands work into fists as I watch him watching her.

Murder in a library in front of my little rabbit is too much. I don’t want to scare her off. I have to bide my time.

I continue to watch the two as she continues to work, clearly unaware of not one, but two dangers that now lurk around her. We really need to work on her spatial awareness.

“Holy shit!” The fright on her face has my cock hardening. Her being scared shouldn’t make me this turned on, especially at the hands of someone else, butfuck, her adrenaline is delectable. My new fix, my new high.

The two fall into conversation with one another at a low enough tone that I can’t hear much, but then she’s on the move. I fall into the shadows, watching her every move. Being her dark knight that lurks to ensure her safety.

I turn back to this other guy when she walks in to use the restroom. You can never be too careful of a man’s actions when he’s willing to literally sit there and watch her like a creeper.

He looks around, pulling out his phone like he’s the good guy.

My posture stiffens when he turns and makes his way in the same direction Lainey went. I move closer to the bathroom, making sure to stay in the dark in case my gut is wrong, but it never is.

“You can’t murder him in the library,” I say to myself as I continue to watch him. He looks around, clearly trying to ensure there’s no one else around, but also making it look like he’s just looking through the racks of books. He’s not fooling me.

His steps slow as he gets closer to the restroom, and as he’s about to push in, I make my move. Grabbing a book, I flip it open to a random page, look down as if I’m reading it, and shoulder check the guy.

“Oh, shit! Sorry man. Didn’t see you there,” closing the book, I hold it up for emphasis.

“Oh,” he laughs, “no worries, just trying to find my girl.”

“Your girl, aye?”

“Yeah, she must be somewhere around here.” Dumb fuck thinks I don’t know what his plan was.

“Maybe the bathroom?” I hook a thumb over my shoulder toward where I know Lainey is.

“Yeah, probably. I guess I’ll just head back and give her a few minutes.”

“Smart.” I widen my stance and hold the book in front of me with one hand while the other hangs at my side. Need to keep it available in case he tries something.

“Well, I guess I’ll go sit now.”

“Hey, I didn’t get your name. I’m Kalix.”

“Alex.”

Oh Alex, you don’t realize the world of hurt you’re in for.

“Well, Alex,” I draw out his name, the sound of it bitter on my tongue. “I hope it all works out.”

“Yeah, thanks.”

He keeps an eye on me as he retreats back to the table, and I continue straight in the direction I was going when I ran into him, trying to find a new spot. As soon as I start to settle into an area, she comes out and makes her way back to the table. Alex is having her help him study like he’s not capable of doing it on his own. What a prick.

Squatting down to get a better view, I knock into the shelf, causing several books to come flying off the shelf.

“Fuck,” I curse and watch as the librarian comes barreling towards me. I throw the shit backonto the shelf, trying to not make it into a big deal as she lectures me and Lainey packs her stuff to leave. Despite everything, I haven’t taken my eyes off her once.

I follow her all the way home, watching as the wind carries her hair. The scared look on her face and how she turns around every two damn seconds to make sure no one is following her. The way her breath hitches when a branch crunches or the leaves bristle.
