“Sorry man, the skin has got to go.”
And that’s exactly what happens.
By the time I’m done, there’s a pile of flesh on the ground next to me, the rest of him still tied to the chair.
I lean back onto the bed, admiring my handy work. His face is nothing more than muscle, blood, and sinew, but as graphic as it is, I feel energized. We won’t ever have to worry about him again, justice has been served by way of a stalker riding a motorcycle.
Looking down at myself, I realize just how fucking disgusting I got during the whole ordeal and decide to take a quick shower before changing into the extra clothes I always keep in my backpack.
We’ll be out of here soon.
CHAPTER 31
LAINEY
The rain has finally stopped pouring.
I sit in one of the rocking chairs on the porch and massage the rope burn on my wrists, wincing from the pain.
“Here, I think there is some jelly shit in this bag somewhere.” Reed, Kalix’s friend, digs through the flimsy shopping bag at his feet.
“It’s okay.” I manage to whisper.
He pulls the ointment out and uncaps it, kneeling in front of me, “It’s not, because I’ll be Kalix’s next victim if I don’t make you put this on.” He holds his palm out for me to lay a hand in his. “Sorry, strict orders.”
My attention bounces back and forth between Reed tending to my wrists and the front door of the cabin. I try not to think about what’s going on inside, but I can’t help but wonder what Kalix is capable of. I mean, I know he’s pretty intense, and obviously a tadcrazy, but would he kill Alex for real? I shake my head and swallow, deciding that I don’t care either way. I don’t even need to, or want to, know any of the details. All I want is to wrap myself up in him when he comes back.
As if he can hear my thoughts, he emerges from the house.
His gaze automatically finds mine and he strides towards me as Reed stands up. Kneeling in front of me, he examines my face, neck and arms. “You okay?”
I nod, “I am now.” Leaning forward I cup his cheek and fuse my mouth to his. He responds like it’s something he does religiously. Wrapping his arms around my waist, I place mine around his neck.
“Ah-chem.” Issac sounds behind him, making us pull apart. “Sorry to interrupt, but we need to get out of here.”
Kalix tilts his head toward him and mutters, “Burn it down.”
I watch Issac flick his eyes to mine, then the house, then he gives Kalix a single nod.
Kalix doesn’t say a word to him as he stands and pulls me up with him. “Let’s get you out of here, Little Rabbit.”
He heads in the direction of my apartment, but I don’t want to go home right now. I need some fresh air. I lean forward a bit, “Can we go somewhere to watch the sun rise? I don’t want to go home yet.”
He doesn’t hesitate, “Of course.”
I smile to myself as I rest my cheek on his back andhold him tighter. Taking a deep breath, I inhale his intoxicating scent. I wish I could bottle it up and bathe in it.
Damn, Lainey. You’re starting to sound a bit psycho.
A few minutes later, we start to slow as he pulls the bike up to a lookout area on the mountain. The sun barely peeking through on the horizon.
Dismounting, he opens a storage compartment on the bike, pulling out a bag and a small blanket. He holds them up and smirks, “Hungry?”
I smile, “Starving, actually.”
He lays the blanket out in front of the bike and sits down with the bag beside him. Tapping the open space between his legs he says, “Come here, baby.”
I quickly oblige, leaning back into him. He wraps his arms around me and kisses the side of my head. “I’m so glad you’re okay, Little Rabbit. If I could kill him ag?—”
