His smile doesn’t falter. “It’s okay. I’ll wear you down, Pookie. I’ll have the same coffee you made me yesterday and one of those donuts that have the cream in the middle with chocolate on the top.”
“A Boston Cream donut. Coming right up.” I turn around to start getting his order ready as he goes to sit at a table by the window.
I get his order together and walk toward him. He’s sitting back in one of the fluffy armchairs, with his legs spread, scrolling on his phone. He looks comfortable sitting there. I wonder what it would feel like to sit in his lap and have his arms consume me.
Okay, Quinn, you need to snap out of it.I don’t have time to entertain a man. I need to keep reminding myself of that.
“You know, you keep saying you don’t want to give me your number, but the way you look at me like you want to eat me tells another story.”
I snap my eyes up to him.
Fuck. I’ve been caught again. I really need to control myself. “I don’t want toeatyou.” I squint at him.
“Coulda fooled me.” He smirks.
I ignore him as I set his coffee and donut down. He pulls his wallet out.
“No, it’s on the house, remember?”
“I know. You owe me because I have third-degree burns.” He winces and starts pulling at his shirt as if the material is hurting the raw skin.
My stomach churns. “I’m so sorry, Liam. Really. I-I didn’t—”
He cuts me off, leaning forward in his chair. He grabs my hand. “Honey Bun, stop it. I’m just messing with you. Nothing a little aloe can’t fix.” He puts my hand to his lips and gently kisses my knuckles as he rubs my fingers. My whole body starts to heat.
I pull my hand away. What is this man doing to me?
He stares at me for a beat. “Since you want to be stubborn and not give me your number…” He pulls out a card and hands it to me. “Here’s my business card, just in case you decide to change your mind.”
I look down at the card. “Liam’s Auto Solutions,” I say.
“Yep. I amTHEELiam.” He smirks.
“Yeah, I kinda figured that.” I smile and quickly school my face. “I’ll take this in case I have an issue with my car, but I won’t be using it for any other reason.”
“You will cave. You won’t be able to resist,” he says.
“I won’t cave,” I deadpan.
He nods and smiles a panty-dropping smile. “Still stubborn, I see. It’s okay. I’m still not giving up.” He stands up and grabs his coffee and donut. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Boo Bear.”
“Do you really want to torture yourself by coming in here every day so you can get rejected?”
He belly laughs and runs his eyes down my body, then back to my eyes. My breath hitches as his eyes darken. “I might be tortured, but not in the way you’re thinking.” He steps toward me, closing in the distance between us.
He tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear, then lifts my chin. “I’m going to wear you down, Kitten. I like a little chase.” He slowly drops my chin and turns to walk out the door.
As I watch him walk past the window and down the sidewalk, I’m frozen in place.
I’m royally fucked.
Quinn
Dammit. This morning, I jinxed myself by telling Liam the only reason I’d use his card to call him was if my car was messed up. It looks like the universe has jokes. Because as soon as I get in my car after work to drive to Charleston to meet an old friend for dinner, it won’t start. What the hell.
My parents are out for the night, so I can’t get my dad to help me. If I call Liam, this means he’ll have my number and canpester me anytime he wants.Fuck.I could just cancel on Lucas and wait for my parents to get home, but it’s been forever since I’ve seen him. We went to college together and he only comes to Charleston every so often.
Deep breaths, Quinn.I guess I have no choice. Hopefully, he can get to me quickly. I’ll just let Lucas know I’m running a little late.
