Asher paused, considering the options. “Please, put up the barrier.” Caspian nodded and swiftly left. He wanted to know more, but he would need to speak with Caspian, away from Lita. He didn’t like the idea of a guardian, but if they were there to protect Lita, he would allow it.

There was so much he didn’t know. He didn’t know much about fairies, other than that they existed, and now he was mated to one. Well, a half fairy who didn’t know anything about her kind, either. This was going to be a learning experience for both of them.

“Lita, you’re so amazing! I want to see magical fairy creatures, too!” Kristen crossed her arms and fake-pouted, a smile cracking through. Because she was part fairy, their luna really was better than all the other lunas. They knew crosses existed but had never actually known of one. Caspian was also part fairy, and they never even knew.

“She is absolutely amazing.” Asher beamed, standing up and pulling Lita with him. “The most amazing mate anyone could ask for. And I’m the one who is blessed to have her by my side.” He didn’t deserve her, but he needed her. She was kind, forgiving, capable, and strong. She brought out the best in him, but she also brought out his jealousy. He had been feeling his strong, possessive nature taking hold. It was something he would need to work on controlling.

“Well, I’m just creeped out. I never knew that fairies could be invisible. I can just imagine all the little perverts watching me as I change. I feel violated.” Caden held his hands over his chest teasingly.

“Who would look at you unless they wanted a laugh?” Garrett chuckled as he stood up to go out on patrol. His main job was pack borders, and now it looked like he was going to be extra busy. Asher had mindlinked him about staying on top of the patrols and making sure no one was slacking.

As Garrett went to open the door, he stopped as a mindlink was sent to the top three: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. There was an accidental mix-up with the training juice.

“Shit,” Asher growled. “I thought I ordered that stuff to be monitored!”

“You did.” Caden glanced at Asher, his eyes filled with concern. “This could be really bad.”

“What happened?” Lita glanced between the men, sensing the urgency.

“There was an accidental mix-up with our training juice. I don’t know the extent of it, but this could be really bad … even fatal if too much was taken.” Asher watched as Lita sprinted away.

“Let me get my bag!”

Chapter 29

Lita rushed to the training arena. She had not seen this place yet, but there was no time to marvel at it. There were several young men writhing in pain on the floor. A crowd had gatheredaround them, and they all looked like they wanted to help but couldn’t. Lita immediately knelt down and began checking their vitals.

“How did this happen? How much did they consume?” Asher asked one of the warriors there.

“They each took a solid gulp before we realized the mix-up. They had taken the juice out of the locker to use but sat it next to their protein smoothies. The new kid didn’t know the difference and passed the wrong drink around.”

Asher nodded his head with a frown. “They should be alright. That amount isn’t life threatening, and maybe it will be good for building up a fast tolerance.”

Lita studied each man and their symptoms. Her brows furrowed and she looked up at Asher in shock. “They’ve ingested liquid silver?!”

“Wow, you are good—” Asher began but Lita cut him off.

“Why do you have liquid silver mixed as a drink form?!” The idea was absurd to her. Silver was fatal to werewolves. Even being near it could cause a reaction for some. The searing pain caused by ingesting it would be immeasurable. Depending on the amount, it could be fatal.

“We use liquid silver as part of our training. We condition ourselves with the exposure as a way to build up a tolerance to it.”

Lita's brow furrowed, her mind racing to process this information. “Tolerance? Is it possible to build up a tolerance to liquid silver?”

“And wolfsbane,” Asher added, his eyes never leaving hers. “Both are well-known weaknesses for our kind. By gradually exposing ourselves, we build resistance. It's a safeguard against potential attacks.”

She'd never heard of such a practice before. Part of her wanted to dismiss it outright, but the logical side of her brain couldn't deny its potential benefits.

“And you think the benefits outweigh the risks?” she asked, her voice losing some of its sharp edge.

Asher nodded, a hint of pride creeping into his expression. “We've seen remarkable results. Our warriors can withstand levels that would incapacitate most werewolves.”

She couldn’t help but admit it did make sense. Black Ice Pack was the strongest around, and this was one of the reasons why. They took initiative and were proactive about trying to get stronger. Why hadn't her old pack ever considered such a practice? It was ... surprisingly sensible, if risky. She filed the thought away for later examination, her focus shifting entirely to the injured werewolves before her.

“We can ease their pain. Where is your infirmary? Can we have the men brought there?” She placed her hands on one of the men’s chests. “Easy … what is your name?”

“L–Luka,” he murmured, his forehead heavy with perspiration. His body twisted, his muscles clenching from the pain that was shooting through him.

“He seems to have ingested more than the others, or his tolerance isn’t as strong. He needs medical attention.”
