Drew was doing well. He had come over for the wedding, and he got to see Nathon and Alice. He was just glad to know that everyone was doing well. He was also very excited about being an uncle. He took to Chasen and Brody right away. Shockingly, so did Kennedy! Kennedy had actually apologized to Lita. She told her that she regretted how she had treated her and wanted to start over as friends. She was prejudiced about her not being a pure werewolf before. The whole pack had always looked at Lita like she was a thorn in their side, a venomous snake that was a danger to their pack, and Kennedy fell into the pack mentality. She was wrong. The pack was wrong. She promised Lita that she and Drew would make things better in their pack. Lita, being the person she was, accepted her apology and friendship. They even spoke on the phone every so often. It seemed that things had worked out, and they were becoming friends.
Teo had found his mate! She was an absolute gem. She was sweet and shy. Ironically, she was part witch. Drew was a strong leader, and he was paving the way for some big changes in the Red Grove Pack. Their pack would accept any mate, and anyone who didn’t like it was welcome to leave. He was still very bitter over how Lita was treated, and he was going to make sure no one else experienced being an outcast.
Time moved quickly after her wedding, too quickly. Before she knew it, she was as big as a house. Well, she felt like she was. She needed Asher by her side constantly. That wasn’t an understatement, either. The moment his touch left her, she had to sit down, her body instantly exhausted. Asher nevercomplained, though. He actually seemed to enjoy the needy attention. Her cravings were all over the place, too. The guys all took turns getting her different foods, except for Asher, who couldn’t leave her side.
“How’s my princess doing?” Caspian asked as he came into the house with Merida. True to his word, they always joined them for dinner.
“I feel like a beached whale.” Lita pouted.
Asher rubbed her large, swollen stomach. “You’re beautiful.” He leaned down and kissed her temple. He hated it when she complained about her size. She was carrying his baby. She was even more beautiful to him.
“A whale can be beautiful too, but it’s still a whale.” Lita frowned as she looked at the huge baby bump.
“Can we get you anything?” Merida asked with a sweet smile. Merida was fitting right in. She was very kind and always offered to help. She didn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. She was a lot like Alice in that way.
“No thanks, Merida. I have a nice little spread in front of me.” Lita looked at all the different snacks. She didn’t just eat at mealtimes. She ate around the clock. Being a werewolf and feeding a werewolf baby meant that mom was always hungry!
“Grayson, Caden, Rosa, and Kristen have the kids at the field. It looked like they were in the middle of an intense game of tag.” Caspian grinned.
“That sounds about right.” Asher laughed happily. Brody and Chasen had become a big part of everyone’s lives. They all felt connected to them. Caden and Grayson even fought over them and who got to play with them that day. Lita squeezed Asher’s hand tightly.
“Baby, are you okay?” Asher rubbed her arm gently.
“Mmmhmm, just some small contractions,” Lita said calmly.
“Okay, baby, if that’s all … wait, WHAT?” Asher jolted upright, bumping Lita around as well.
Lita giggled. “Calm down. These things take time, but I think our little girl is ready to come out.”
Asher was in full-blown panic mode. He started barking out mindlinks to everyone who was assigned a certain task. Asher had planned out tasks for everyone in his group for when the big day arrived, which was now. He hopped up and started running around, leaving Lita on the couch to stare at the panicked wolf.
“I’ll go get our midwife!” Caspian ran out in a panic.
“I guess he forgot he could just mindlink her?” Lita giggled along with Merida.
“You sure you want a home birth?” Merida asked her. “This is the moment of truth.”
“I’m sure. I haven’t done the whole formal baby thing with the healers. I’m trying to keep everything as natural as possible. Plus, it will be nice to just be home. Who can sleep in hospitals anyways? I want to be able to have visitors freely.” Lita frowned as another contraction came on, this time a bit stronger.
“Asher, will you get over here and comfort her?” Merida spoke out in the most aggressive tone they had ever heard come out of her mouth.
Asher smirked. “Looks like being around werewolves has turned you savage.” He saw her blush in embarrassment as he managed to put his head back on. He was back at Lita’s side. “What do you need from me, baby?”
“I think I need to get upstairs before these contractions get worse,” Lita said, after she finished breathing through her contraction. Asher lifted her into his arms, carrying her up the stairs bridal-style.
“Asher, I’m too heavy for this,” Lita protested, but he gave her a look like she was crazy.
“Baby, I can carry you and our baby easily.” Asher effortlessly carried her into their room. He was feeling nervous for Lita. Would it be really painful for her? How could he help her?
“Asher, I’m fine. Everything is going to be fine. I need you to be calm for me,” Lita cooed to him as he gently sat her on the bed.
“I guess it’s too late to back out now,” Asher said with a sheepish grin.
“You think?” Lita giggled.
“Has the baby arrived?” Drew burst into the house, followed by Kennedy.
“Not yet,” Alice said, sitting beside Nathon, drinking tea. They beat Drew there, having traveled on the hippogryphs. The moment the messenger fairy got there, they hurried over to the Black Ice Pack.
