Lita took in a breath and ignored the voice that continued to urge her to leave. She was curious about the other person. She walked toward them.
She saw the man from earlier, whose black and blue nose looked as if it had seen better days. Then she looked at the other ‘man’ beside him. It was the other male employee. So, punching him in the face was just for show. Now that she could sense him clearly, he still seemed human, but there was more to him.
“Where is your friend?” the black-nosed man asked.
“I told her to leave when I saw you up ahead.” Lita’s eyes flickered between the two men.
“Yet, you still came?” the other man asked with interest.
“Well, your friend here really pissed me off and almost ruined my fun day. Letting him get off with just a black and blue nose just isn’t my style.” Lita glared at the ugly-nosed man. She smirked, antagonizing him to advance toward her.
“You should have run, girl.” The man walked toward Lita.
CRACK THWAP
The sound of an arm breaking and a loud thud echoed in the room. The man was lying unconscious on the floor a few feet away from Lita.
“Well, I guess I feel a tiny bit better.” Lita shrugged and turned her gaze toward the other man, studying him curiously.
“It’s Reed. My name is Reed.”
“Introductions? Really? What do you want?” Lita looked at the man named Reed and felt her world shift. It was like she was above the area but in another dimension. She stood above where she was before, but on air. She looked around, fascinated. “Is this an astral plane?”
Reed’s eyes danced in amusement. “You aren’t scared?”
Lita looked back at Reed and couldn’t help the slight laugh that came out of her throat. “Not at all. I’m actually pretty fascinated. Like, am I on air or is there a floor here in another dimension?”
Reed chuckled. “You’re very funny. Yes, this is an astral plane. And technically you just can’t see what you’re standing on right now.”
“So, are you like a witch?” Lita thought this was the most logical assumption.
“Warlock. Witch is what the women are called.” He eyed her curiously. She wasn’t scared at all.
“So, is this how you get women? You trap them in an astral plane? Please tell me you aren’t that lame.” Lita looked at him with her brows raised. “And your friend there … he’s sick. Are you like him, too?”
“No, I’m not like him. He has a problem. And no, I don’t use this to pick up women. You’re the first.” Reed’s voice was calm and quiet as he watched Lita.
“I feel so special,” Lita said in a mocking voice. “So, what was all this? An attempt for your friend to get with mine? That isn’t ever going to happen.”
“He wanted to see if he could persuade her into it. I came along just to make sure he didn’t get dirty. I’m seriously not a bad guy.” Reed shrugged with a crooked smile. “I’m really curious why you seem so unphased by this. Most humans would be freaking out right about now.”
“Yeah, you’re right. Most humans would be. That would be true … if I were human.” Lita’s eyes flashed at his as a small smile rested on her face.
Chapter 70
Lita watched as Grayson, Asher, Caden, and Caspian came crashing into the room below them, storming aroundfrantically. She couldn’t hear them, but she could see them. Likewise, she couldn’t mindlink or mate link to them either.
“Man, you weren’t kidding about your friends. They look like they’re ready to kill. What did you mean when you said IF you were human?”
Lita redirected her gaze to him as she watched the men scatter in different directions looking for her. Caden stayed in the room near the body of the man she had laid unconscious, most likely waiting to question him when he woke up.Sorry, Caden. He isn’t waking up anytime soon.
“I meant it exactly the way it sounded. Maybe, if I were a normal human, then this would freak me out. I’m not.” Lita watched the wheels turning in Reed’s head.
“You aren’t a witch or a demon, I can tell that right off. Are you a shifter or a fairy?” Reed looked at her with interest.
“Yes.” Lita giggled. She was both. She probably shouldn’t be telling a stranger, but he did show her he was a warlock. A secret for a secret. She would keep the fairy princess off the table for now, though. Mira was no longer antsy, so she also didn’t perceive him as a threat anymore.
Reed began chuckling. “Well, no wonder you knocked him out cold. My stepsister is a fairy. Her dad is a fairy, and he married my mom. My dad died before I was born, and her mother died at the hands of a demon. So technically, she’s my stepsister, but we’ve been together since we were toddlers. She is my straight-up sister to me.”
