“Thank you. And humor me.”
“Okay, um… No, it wasn’t scary.” The last image flashes in my head. “Well, except the part where it seems I was pregnant.”
“That scares you?”
“The thought of the pain does, yeah.”
This entire conversation is beyond surreal.
“There is no pain in Valhalla unless Odin inflicts it.”
“Right. Okay. But what was the point of all that?”
“I’m going to tell you the same thing I told Reaper. Keep your mind and heart open to the possibilities. That’s all I ask of you.”
“What poss?—”
Skuld’s body shimmers like ripples of light, and she’s gone.
“What. The. Actual. Fuck?”
Go to him.
“Skuld?” I glance around, searching for the source of her voice.
Go to him and let him explain.
No. I can’t go to him. I’ve got Heidi and Hun?—”
Call Sasha to come sit with the kids. I promise, she’ll be happy to do it. Then, go. To. Him!
I guess I’m going to talk to Reaper.

Odin
“How could you be so reckless?”
Reaper downs the shot Grump poured him and slams the glass onto the table. Viking glares at his enforcer from his perch on the counter, waiting for Reaper to answer him. But Reaper doesn’t answer.
“The man asked you a question.”
All eyes turn to me, wide and wary.
“Odin,” Reaper says unnecessarily.
“Yes. I’m curious as to how you’ll respond to your president,” I say. “How could you be so reckless?”
He takes a deep breath. “I lost control. It’s that simple and that complicated.”
“You’re lucky I don’t send you straight to the Fire Pits.”
Viking stiffens at my admonishment. “I’ll handle the discipline of my men,” he tells me.
“Your men are my men, Viking. You’ll do well to remember that.”
“What are you doing here?” Reaper asks me, no doubt rescuing his brother from what could become a nasty argument.
