Shadow is the first to get himself back under control. He loses all hints of humor in his expression as he moves across the room to stand in front of Beau.

“You know nothing about your son because if you did, you wouldn’t be sitting there calling him a coward or acting like he isn’t the biggest threat to you in this room. You have no idea what he’s capable of, especially when it comes to protecting those he loves.”

“He’s nothing. Always has been and always will be.”

It’s a good job that I don’t blink in that moment, because if I did, I’d have missed it. Shadow reacts so fast, pulling his fist back and nailing Beau hard in the side of the jaw. He’s lucky that the chair he’s tied to is bolted to the ground because if it wasn’t, he’d have toppled over with the force of that hit.

“Watch your fucking mouth.” Shadow spits out angrily.

Wreck is wrapped around Shadow from behind before he can gear up for another hit. It’s amazing watching them together. The anger just seems to drain out of Shadow’s body the moment he feels Wreck around him.

“Ignore him. It doesn’t matter what he says. We all know he’s not leaving this room alive. He’ll be out of all our lives for good soon, and I can’t fucking wait.”

Beau looks like he’s about to say something else, but he must see something on Wreck and Shadow’s faces causing him to think twice about it. Choosing to keep his mouth shut. Probably the smartest thing he’s done in a long time because I think Shadow would rip him apart with his bare hands if he continued to badmouth Wreck.

“Shall we get this show on the road? I’d like to get back to Dre and Immy sooner rather than later.”

“That sounds like a plan.” Wreck says as he releases his hold on Shadow and turns to face me.

“I take it you want in on the fun I have planned for them?” I ask.

“Yes.” Wreck replies, eyes blazing with rage.

“He’s all yours. Do what you wish, but if you can get answers about their criminal operation, I won’t complain.”

“I’ll see what I can do.” Wreck says before walking away and heading towards all the different tools.

I watch as he picks up the car battery and jumper cables. I smile to myself at that. He definitely isn’t planning on taking it easy on Beau. Good. I can’t wait to see what they end up doing to him. One thing I can tell, though, is they’re going to make it hurt.

Chapter Thirty-One

Dre

Today has been different. Not spending all my time with Rex has been a change, considering we’ve been attached at the hip for the past few days. I know he’s not been far away, only a five-minute walk from the house, but I’ve still missed him. A lot. I can’t help it; even though it was only a few days of uninterrupted time together, I got used to him always being with me.

Even though I’ve been missing Rex, I’ve still had a good day. It’s been fun spending time with Wraith and Seth. Out of everyone, I seem to have gotten to know them best and would class them both as good friends now. Probably the best friends I’ve ever had, if I’m being honest. I just seem to have clicked with them. Wraith was a little weird when she first got back from The Holding Facility, but she soon shook that mood off. Hopefully she’s okay, and it’s nothing too bad or serious that caused her mood to be so low. I did try to ask her about it, but she just brushed me off, and I didn’t think pushing her to talk was the best move.

Rex just walked back into the house after spending the day handling business in The Holding Facility, and I’m beyond happy he’s home. I don’t seem to be the only one either; Immymay only be a baby, but she’s still beaming as she catches sight of him. It’s so sweet. I love that my daughter is clearly already attached to him, and the feeling is obviously mutual. There is no missing the clear adoration and love in Rex’s eyes when he looks at her.

Rex hasn’t come home alone, though; Wreck and Shadow are entering just behind him. I have a feeling that means they’ve been dealing with Beau and Annmarie. I know Wreck’s been eager to get his hands on them but has been waiting for Rex to head back to work. He didn’t want to do anything to interrupt the time Rex and I were spending together. Which I really appreciated.

“Hey, sweetheart. Have you had a good day?” Rex says after he stops in front of me and drops a quick kiss on my lips.

“It’s been good. I’ve missed you, though. How’s yours been?”

“I’ve missed you too. My day has been busy, but everything has been handled now.”

“Does that mean what I think it does?”

“If you think that means they’re all gone for good, then yeah. That’s exactly what I mean.”

I blow out a massive breath at his words, and tension I didn’t even realize I was carrying lifts from my shoulders. Knowing they’re never going to come back and take me away from my life again is beyond amazing. I can move on without any worries. I can build a life with Rex and Immy. This is fucking fantastic news, and I plan on showing Rex how much, later. Once Immy is down for the night.

“Are you okay, little brother?” Wreck asks, eyeing me warily.

“I’m fantastic. I’m relieved they’re gone for good. If that makes me a bad person, so be it. Knowing the threat they pose is officially gone is everything I didn’t realize I needed.”

“It doesn’t make you a bad person, Dre. They’ve done nothing but harm you in one way or another. I’d be moresurprised if you didn’t feel like you currently do.” Rex says as he wraps his arms around me, hugging me to his front.
