Mom soon switched gears after she was finished with Richard, though. She was ready to meet Dre. Apparently, Iwasn’t the only one who’d told her about him. I couldn’t resist gushing over him when I spoke to her last night, but apparently even Anarchy and Phantom had nothing but praise for him when they spoke to her. She was more than a little intrigued about him, especially with such a fantastic endorsement from two of her Reapers. They’re not exactly easily impressed by anyone. Their meeting went just the way I expected it to. Mom clearly adored him from first sight if the massive hug she gave him was any indication. I could tell it meant the world to Dre that she embraced him so easily. I told him he had nothing to worry about, and I was right.

As much as I’m sure Mom wished she could have stuck around and gotten to know Dre better, she didn’t have that option. She’s a busy woman, and duty called. Dre did promise to keep in touch with her though, and I could tell my mom was ecstatic about that. I have a feeling as time passes they’re going to become incredibly close, and if anyone deserves that sort of connection with a motherly figure, it’s Dre. He certainly drew the short straw with his own.

Thinking of Dre’s fucking parents reminds me of what’s to come next on my to-do list of the day. Anarchy and Phantom should be arriving with them anytime now. Meaning I’m once again going to have to leave Dre, which is the last thing I want to do. I swear I’m going to find a way to spend some time with him without any interruptions if it kills me. I want some fucking time with my man without the world fucking interfering. There’s only one person who I’ll never complain about affecting my time with Dre, and that’s Immy. Everyone else is just going to have to deal with us shutting them out for a while.

“I thought you said it was just Anarchy and Phantom coming with the Kings?” Austin says as he enters the chill-out space where I’m currently stealing a minute with Dre and Immy.

“That’s because it is meant to just be them. Why? What’s going on now?”

“They’re here, and they’re not alone. It looks like we’re about to be invaded by all The Reapers.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake. Seriously.”

“Yep. They’ve just pulled up in a convoy outside The Holding Facility.”

“Great. Just what I wanted.”

“Is it bad they’re all here?” Dre asks, sounding wary.

“Not really, no. I’m just annoyed because I was hoping we’d finally get some alone time soon, and with their arrival I doubt that’s going to happen.”

“Rex. You don’t have to be the one to deal with everything. For once you’re going to put yourself first and spend time with your man while the rest of us deal with everything else.” Austin says, staring me down.

I can see him gearing up to argue his point with me, but for once I’m not going to argue. I’m going to take the offer for them to handle some of the load on my shoulders and run with it. I want time with Dre, and the only way that is going to happen is if I accept help.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Dre

Hearing Rex say he wants to spend time with just us means more to me than I could ever put into words. Ever since we decided to give this thing between us a shot, we’ve had one thing after another take precedence over us. As much as I understand the reason it’s had to happen, it doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed about not getting a chance to spend more time with him or even get a proper fucking kiss. I need a proper fucking kiss from him; the peck he gave me a few days ago was amazing. I can only imagine how magical anything more with him will be. I want the chance to experience that.

Watching the shock overtake Austin as Rex doesn’t argue with him is priceless. It’s clear to me he expected Rex to put up some sort of fight. Probably because he’s never willingly accepted help with things he sees as his responsibility in the past. Things are different now, though; Rex has more to think about than just himself. Rex might be okay with handing some of the reins over to his brothers, but that doesn’t mean he plans on being rude and not going to greet all The Reapers who have just arrived.

“You want to come and meet them all?” He asks as he stands.

“Sure. It’ll probably be better than running into an unfamiliar face around the house. I can’t imagine I’d enjoy that much. Plus I wouldn’t mind seeing Anarchy and Phantom again. I never really got the chance to thank them for everything they did and have continued to do.”

Austin mutters something that I don’t quite catch, but Rex must hear him or at least guess what he says because he turns and narrows his eyes on his brother.

“You and Anarchy better fucking behave. I swear to god if you two start your normal shit, I will lock you both in a room together and not let you out until you figure out how to get along.” Rex threatens.

“I’ll behave as long as he does. I’m not going to keep my mouth shut if he starts being a dickhead.” Austin replies, and I can see the stubbornness in his eyes. It’s clear to me he means what he’s saying. He won’t stay quiet if Anarchy provokes him.

“I’ll be giving him the same warning. I’m not kidding, Austin, we have enough going on around here without having to play referee between you two.”

“Alright, I get it. I’ll be on my best behavior.” He says with an eye roll before turning and heading out of the room.

“Why do I not believe he’ll be on his best behavior?” I ask Rex as I stand and start to follow him out of the house and towards The Holding Facility. Thankfully, Immy is down for a nap, and Seth offered to listen out for her, so I don’t have to worry about her right now.

“Because it was all bullshit. He’ll keep to his word and not say anything to outright provoke Anarchy, but he’ll do something that will lead to them ending up at each other’s throats. It always happens. It’s probably the one thing you can always guarantee where those two are concerned.”

I sort of really want to see the way they are with each other. I’m beyond curious. There’s got to be something that hashappened to cause them to act the way Rex is saying that they do. I’ve met both men, and neither seems like the type to just dislike and argue with someone just for the sake of it. There has to be something more that nobody knows about. But that begs the question, why does nobody know?

Austin wasn’t kidding when he said they’d pulled up in a convoy of vehicles. There are four separate vehicles parked up outside The Holding Facility. Two bigger model vehicles and two sports cars. I have no idea about the makes and all that; cars aren’t really my thing. There are five people standing around the cars that I’ve never seen before. There’s no sight of Anarchy, Phantom, or their prisoners. They must have already headed inside. I’m not complaining about that at all. I don’t want to see Beau and Annmarie ever again.

“I hope you’re ready for this. They can be a little bit much for people who aren’t used to them.”

“I’ll be fine, Rex. Let’s go greet your friends. I’m assuming they’re all your friends. Right?”
