“You need to inform Mom.” Jake says, speaking up for the first time.
“Already taken care of. Anarchy and Phantom are going to do it from their secure line when they reach the safe house with Beau and Annmarie. They have the most secure line to her, andI’m not taking any fucking chances. The mole could be fucking anyone.”
“If you weren’t holding Immy right now, I’d seriously punch you in the face. You kept what you knew from us and called in those two to help you.” Austin says, voice laced with irritation.
There’s no surprise there. I knew he’d be the one most put out about me contacting Phantom and Anarchy. Austin and Anarchy have always clashed. I’ve never understood why, but you can guarantee the moment they are in each other’s vicinity, all hell will break loose. They’ve had some legendary arguments over the years. Their entire relationship is the definition of love-hate.
“Austin, don’t start. We’ve got bigger fish to fry than you being annoyed that he involved Anarchy. One day you are really going to have to tell us what your issue is with him.” Jake says, eyeing up Austin like he’s a bomb about to explode. He’s right to be wary; Austin tends to go off whenever we ask him why he dislikes Anarchy so much.
“You’re going to help us figure out this mole shit?” Seth asks, stopping Austin from replying to Jake. Thankfully. For the first time since I informed him of the mole, he looks up from his laptop screen. His eyes are filled with determination. I know for a fact he’s not going to rest until he knows the identity of the person who’s betrayed us.
“Yes, I’m going to help. Not only have they fucked with our family business, which is a big fucking no-no. They endangered Dre. He might not be a member of Devil’s Inferno, but he’s still Wreck’s brother. That means something to us. You’re going to be lucky if you don’t have the entire club wanting a part in this when they learn all the details.”
“That might not be a bad thing. At least we know we can actually trust them. The majority of The Khaos Group have a massive question mark over their heads right now. I’m workingas fast as I can, but this fucker has kept themselves hidden and under the radar for a long fucking time.” Seth replies before looking back down and carrying on his search.
“We bring in whoever we need to. Getting rid of this fucking rat is all that matters right now. Everything The Khaos Group does is in jeopardy until they’re dealt with. There’s no telling the number of missions and cases they’ve compromised in the past or plan to compromise in the future. Not to mention what they’ll do if they find out I stopped Beau and Annmarie.”
“I know this isn’t really my thing, but can I make a suggestion?” Dre says warily.
“Always.”
“You know your mole had to have knowledge of the plan to apprehend Beau and Annmarie all those years ago, and you also suspect that they were feeding information to Patrick to help him stay one step ahead. Can Seth somehow cross-reference those two things and see what Khaos Operatives they have in common? Wouldn’t that give you some place to start?”
We all stare at Dre. How the fuck hadn’t I thought of that? It’s fucking obvious now he’s said it. We keep fucking records of everything. Everything a person accesses within our systems is logged. If the traitor wasn’t someone who officially worked on either case, their ID information would still show up in the system when they accessed the relevant information they needed. Unless they stole someone else’s, but that’s not fucking likely. There are too many failsafes in place for that to happen.
“Dre King, you are a motherfucking genius. If I didn’t think my brother would kick my ass, I’d kiss you right now. I’m going to my office so I have access to all my systems.” Seth says, standing and rushing out.
“Are we taking bets on how long until he has the mole’s name?” Jake asks, breaking the silence that followed Seth’s exit.
“Not a chance,” I say with a snort. “While Seth does his thing, do one of you mind pulling out my old furniture for Immy? I’m going to give Dre a quick tour of my wing and then make a plan for reuniting him with Wreck.”
“I got it. You want it in the empty room next to yours?” Austin asks.
“Yeah. That’ll work.”
“We’ll help. We’ll have it handled in no time. Oh, and Dre, if you want us to watch Immy while you see Wreck, it’s not a problem.” Flash says as he stands and starts to follow Austin and Jake out of the room.
“Are you sure you don’t mind? It might be best if she stays here with you all. I don’t think Wreck is going to take the news of everything well.”
“I have no issue watching that little cutie for you, Dre. She won’t be the first baby I’ve kept an eye on. You’re not wrong about your brother either. When he learns about your parents, his fuse is going to blow, and I don’t even think Shadow is going to be able to stop his volatile reaction.”
“I know. It’s why I said I wanted to be the one who told him. If you really don’t mind, then yes, I’d rather you watch her than take her with us.”
“Just holler before you plan on leaving. I’ll be somewhere around here.”
With those final words, Flash heads out to go and help Austin and Jake gather the necessary furniture we’re going to need for Immy.
“Are you sure you’re going to be okay leaving Immy here? You haven’t been apart since she came into your care.”
“Do I want to leave her? No. Not in the slightest, but I know it’s best that she stays here. We both know there’s probably nowhere safer for her than in your house with not only yourbrothers here but Flash too. None of them will let anything happen to her.”
“You’re not wrong. This house has safeguards that would make your head spin. With who we are and what we do, they were sort of necessary. I just hope to god we never actually have a need to use some of them.”
“I feel better knowing you have things in place that will keep us all safe. I was taken from my own bed, Rex. Knowing there’s no chance of that happening here is more of a relief than you’ll ever know.”
“You will always be safe with me, Dre. I’d die before I ever let anything bad touch you again.”
“Let’s not talk about you dying. That’s not something I want to be thinking about. Especially not when I’ve only just found you. We’re just starting out. I hope we’ve got many more years together to come.”
