For the first time ever, I’ve actually taken a step back from working. Before I found and rescued Dre, his was the only case I was actively working on. Handling everything that needed my immediate attention when we got home meant I had the option to take a break, and I did it without a second thought. Something I never thought I’d ever do. My whole life has been dedicated to my work, but now I have something else to focus my attention on. Dre and Immy.
These past few weeks have been like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Normally my life would be filled with work, dealing with the darkness that plagues the world, but instead of all that, it’s been filled with light, joy, and love. All courtesy of Dre and Immy. They’ve given me something I never imagined I would have, and I love them both endlessly for it.
I watch on with a smile on my face as the love of my life places Immy down for her nap. We’ve had a busy morning shopping for more things for our wing of the house to make it more ours than just mine. We’ve slowly been changing things, and I love each and every thing that shows I now share my home with two amazing people.
Dre turns towards me, heading straight into my arms. I love how often he does this; having him in my arms always brings me a level of peace I never thought was possible for someone like me.
“So I have something to ask you.” He says as he tips his head back to look up at me.
“Ask away, sweetheart.”
“Will you officially be Immy’s other dad? There’s no denying she already sees you that way. She might just be a baby, but it’s clear as day with the way she acts towards you. I know you see her as your daughter too, even if you’ve never said anything.”
“It would be my pleasure. You’re right, I do see her as my daughter. She wormed her way into my heart the same way as her daddy did.” I reply with a massive smile across my face.
I never expected him to ask me to be her other father any time soon. I thought we had years before he’d feel comfortable asking me something so serious and definitive. I’m not complaining though; other than marrying Dre when the time is right, there’s nothing more I want in life than to be Immy’s other parent. Officially.
Before either of us can say anything else, the sound of Micah’s terrified voice shouting for Flash and Jake penetrates our little bubble. The smile that had overtaken my face moments ago vanishes as Dre and I share a worried look before he moves out of my arms and starts pushing me towards the door.
“Find out what’s happened. I’ll stay here with Immy until you know more.”
“Okay, sweetheart.” I reply before giving him a final kiss on his head and sprinting out of my wing of the house and towards Jake and Flash’s. If I had to guess, I’d say Micah is probably in the game room we set up for him; it’s where he tends to spend most of his time when he’s at home. Not that I can blame him; it’s heaven for a kid his age.
It looks like I wasn’t the only one who heard Micah’s terrified scream and came to see what had happened, as when I round the corner to where the games room is located, both Seth and Austin are just a little further ahead of me. We’ve all come running because we know a member of our family needs us. Just the way it should be, in my opinion.
I catch up with them just before they reach the doorway, and we all enter together. The scene in front of me increases my worry tenfold. Micah is more than a little distraught, his entire being trembling as he cries in the arms of Flash and Jake. What in the world has happened?
Jake and Flash turn their heads at the sound of us entering, and from the look in both their eyes, I know whatever has happened is serious and bad. Really fucking bad.
Jake extracts himself from the group embrace, stands, and heads towards where we’re standing in the doorway. His entire body is tight with tension.
“We have a big fucking problem, and I’m going to need your help. Especially yours, Rex. We’re going to need Dre too.”
“What’s happened?” I ask cautiously.
“Micah was on the phone to Cam. He was out with Wrath, Shadow, and Sera driving somewhere. Anyway, he heard a crash followed by silence for a few minutes before he heard Cam say one word before the call cut off.”
“What did he hear?” Seth asks, voice tinged with worry.
“Jasmine.”
“As in Cam’s aunt who caused all that trouble you were told about when you were recovering?” I ask, even though I’m positive of the answer.
“Yes. The one and only. Now you see why we need yours and Dre’s help, Rex. The guys don’t know what’s happened yet, but when we tell them, they’re going to lose their shit. We need Dre’s help to keep Wreck under control. I’m going to ask Flashto contact his mom and June to deal with Blade and Blaze, but that just leaves Flame. None of us can match him in skill; he’s a master at hand-to-hand. If he loses it, we’re fucked. That’s why we need you, Rex. You’re probably one of the only people who can match him and stop him.”
“I’m in. Let me go and fill Dre in on everything. Austin, is there any chance you can watch Immy? I don’t think taking her with us is the best move. Not with how high tensions are going to be.”
“I’m fine with watching Immy as long as you all let me know if you need my help.”
“Deal. Come on then. You might as well come with me. Dre was with Immy before I headed this way.”
“Thank you, Rex.” I hear Flash call out from where he’s still comforting his little brother.
“It’s what family does, Flash. No thanks needed. One of you needs to contact whoever you think is best to run things while Wrath and Shadow are missing in action.”
“Eagle. He’s probably going to be the only person who can compartmentalize everything enough to focus on the task at hand.”
“Contact him while I go and fill Dre in on everything. We’ll meet you back here asap.”
