“Yeah, they are. They’re all good people and excellent friends. Unique and a little crazy sometimes but still good people all the same.”
“Okay then. Come on, I’m ready.” I say eagerly. I’m a little bit excited to meet the rest of The Reapers. What can I say? I’m curious about the group of assassins.
Rex grabs my hand as we continue walking towards where all The Reapers I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting are gathered. They’re all talking amongst themselves, acting like they don’t realize we’re here, but I very much doubt that’s the case. I suspect their level of awareness is off the charts. It would have to be with what they do. With the jobs they do and the world they live in, they need to be on alert almost constantly. It’s too risky for them not to be.
“So this is a surprise.” Rex says as we get into their hearing range. “What’s with the invasion?”
“We couldn’t let you, Anarchy and Phantom, have all the fun now, could we? Plus, after hearing those two talk about your man, we couldn’t not come and meet him.” The only female in the group says.
She’s shorter than all the men who surround her. I’d guess she’s about my height or maybe a little shorter. I don’t think the fact she is smaller makes her any less of a threat, though. There’s just something about her, an air that tells me she’s one of the deadliest people here. I’m not sure what her skill set is, but I’m sure she uses everything, including her smaller size and build, to her advantage.
“You wanted to meet me?” I ask, shocked. I wasn’t expecting them to come here to meet me at all.
“Of course we did. It’s not often one of us finds someone who fits into our lives. You and Rex give the rest of us hope that there’s someone out there for even people like us. Plus, Anarchy and Phantom were seriously impressed with your grit, and that’s not something that ever happens.” She explains, making sure to give me her full attention, which I appreciate.
“You were all curious about Dre. That’s why you’re here.” Rex asks, sounding cautious. I can’t help but wonder if he doesn’t quite believe what she is saying.
“Yes, and to get our own shots in on Richard The Dick. We can’t be having a traitor and not making our own displeasure known.”
“I should have known you’d all end up here after learning about Richard. Talk about an oversight on my part. I know what you’re all like; you just can’t resist. You can all have your fun later. I don’t care what you do to the prick as long as he’s still breathing by the time I get around to dealing with him. I still need to get some answers out of him, so keep that in mind, please. Now, let me introduce you all to Dre. You might know who he is, but he doesn’t have a clue about you all.”
“Shit. Sorry, I forgot that people normally introduce themselves. It’s not like we do this meeting-new-people thing very often. Well, not with people we aren’t about to wipe out anyway.”
She slaps her hand over her mouth when she realizes what she’s just said, and I can’t help but laugh. She’s a breath of fresh air with how unfiltered and honest she is. I have a feeling I’m going to like her. A lot.
“Right on that note, let’s get the introductions over with. The chatty one there is Wraith. The only female in The Reapers. Next to her you’ve got our resident grump, Storm. Don’t worry if he never seems to look happy; it’s his default setting. Then we have Slayer, our charming motherfucker. Don’t let his charming nature and model-worthy good looks fool you. He’s as deadly and vicious as they come. Next to Slayer we’ve got Raven. Don’t mind his aloofness; it’s just the way he is around new people. I’ll let you uncover the true Raven that’s hidden away for yourself, and finally we have Crimson. He’s our creative and resourceful one.”
“It’s great to meet you all.” I say genuinely with a smile.
I really am more than happy to meet them and can’t wait to spend more time getting to know them better and understand the way Rex has described them all.
“I’ve gotta go and have words with Anarchy. Do you want to come with or stay out here with this lot?”
“He can stay out here with us. It’ll be more fun than listening to you lecture Anarchy.” Wraith says, a mischievous smile on her face.
“What she said. I’m sure you won’t be gone long, and maybe they all have some good stories to share with me about your past.”
“Oh, we have the best stories.” Wraith says, rubbing her hands together while flashing Rex an evil smile.
“Behave, Wraith. I don’t need you scaring him off.”
“No chance of that happening, Rex. You’re not getting rid of me that easily.” I say it before anyone else can say anything else.
After a quick hug and the normal kiss to the top of the head, Rex heads inside to find Anarchy. I know he’s only going to find him to give him the same warning as he did Austin, and I don’t need to hear him do that again. I’d much rather spend some time getting to know Wraith and the others. I have a feeling they’ll be showing their faces around here quite often.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Rex
Warning Anarchy to behave doesn’t take me long at all. I don’t know if my words will make any difference to him or Austin when they end up in the same space, but nobody can say I haven’t tried to get them under some semblance of control. I wasn’t kidding when I threatened to lock them in a room together. I don’t have the time or patience to play referee with them anymore. I doubt any of us have. The way they act with each other has gotten fucking old. They need to figure their shit out and start getting along.
Walking back outside The Holding Facility with Anarchy and Phantom at my back, I come to a halt at the sight that greets me. Dre is laughing so hard at something Wraith is saying that he has tears streaming down his face. His head is thrown back, and he just looks so happy and free. He looks fucking beautiful like this. I want to grab him and show him just how beautiful, sexy, and amazing I find him, but I know I can’t do that just yet. No matter how much I want to. Having responsibilities really sucks sometimes.
“It looks like Wraith has taken a liking to your man.” Anarchy says as he observes the same scene as me.
“That’s not a bad thing. She needs more connections outside of all of us.” I reply thoughtfully, as I think about how few connections Wraith really has outside of The Reapers and my family.
“That is true. Let’s just hope she doesn’t talk him into any of her crazy ideas.” Anarchy says with a laugh.
