“Yes,” he says in a serious voice, “I’ll tell you. I do still want to talk to you in person,andsoon.”
“I’m catering tomorrow. I can stop by your office, if you don’t mind talkingthere.”
“Let’s do that,” heagrees.
I decide to try to lighten the mood a bit. “I might even bring you a sweet treat, if I think youdeserveit.”
I hear him snort into the phone. “Was that supposed to be aeuphemism?”
“I mean, I was going to bring you a muffin,” I taunt, “but if there’s something else you’dratherhave...”
“Where you’re concerned,definitely.”
We both laugh and then say a quickgoodbye.
What an imbecile,I think, dropping my phone onto the mattress and smiling up at myceiling.
