He looms over me. His blue eyes flash with cold fire. “That device sent the exact location of our village tosomeone. Want to explain?”

I gape at him. “You can’t be serious!”

Is he accusing me of trying to disclose Amber Bay’s coordinates to someone?Fuck. I’d never do that. This place is now my home. At least I thought so up until a minute ago.

“Let me remind you, Skye, that you signed a non-disclosure agreement at your arrival here. Do you remember its terms?”

Aiden’s voice goes eerily quiet. It’s worse than yelling.

Jack looks from Aiden to me, his forehead furrowed. “You don’t think she had anything to do with this?”

My blood boils. I fling out my arms. “Ofcoursehe does. Blame the witch, hey?”

Jack’s expression turns stormy. “Aiden, Skye would never…”

The leader of the Amber Bay clan rounds on him. “Would neverwhat? Pick her own kind over ours? We could be facing a horde of witches gunning for our location even now, and there’s nothing we can do about it because our fucking barrier spell still isn’t up.”

It hurts like hell to hear those words from him, spoken in an acidic tone. He doesn’t trust me. Never has. It all comes down to the differences between us, no matter how much I pretend otherwise. Aiden’s decided that I’m only as useful as my magic.

“That’s hardly fair,” I counter, lifting my chin high. “You haven’t given me enough time to complete the contractoraccess to outside resources I needed until yesterday.”

The equipment we brought from Anchorage might be enough for our needs, but I’m almost sure it’ll take more plane trips before the village is really secure.

He narrows his eyes. If he expected me to simply roll over and expose my belly to him, he’s in for a nasty shock.

“Or you’ve been stalling,” he growls, “biding your time until your coven was ready.”

“Ready for what?” I yell. “You’re so paranoid, you’re not thinking clearly.”

He swears and swipes the shards of the device from the table.

Jack takes a step toward him and lifts a placating hand. “Listen, Skye’s been here for almost two months. Do you really think she couldn’t have alerted someone of our location in that time? The GPS tracker came in with the box.”

“You have no idea about the threats we’re facing. She could have—” Aiden begins.

I step right into his personal space and poke him in the chest. “You weretherewhen I called Alice. I didn’t even have access to a phone until you got me a new one.”

“There are phones all over the village. Landlines and mobiles. You could have gotten your hands on any one of them.”

My gut clenches. “So now I’m in breach of contract, trying to expose your clan to the witches, anda thief? Nice, Aiden. Really.” I turn to the door. “I’m staying in my cabin tonight. I don’t want to be anywhere near you.”

“If you think I’ll let you—” he starts to say.

The door bangs open, and I jump back. Maya is standing on the threshold, her cheeks red. She’s clutching a piece of paper and she’s breathing hard, as though she’d come running.

“Oh good,” she gasps. “You’re all here.”

“We’re in the middle of something,” Aiden snaps.

Jack steps up to her. “Hey, are you all right? What’s up?”

Maya looks up at her brother; he’s several inches taller than her, but the family resemblance is obvious. Her gray eyes seem troubled, though.

“This was in our mailbox,” she says, handing the paper to Jack. “And they’re all over town.”

Jack takes the leaflet from her, scans it quickly, and freezes. “Fuck.”

“What?” Aiden demands.
