“Hi, Finley,” Evan says. He goes straight to her and enfolds her in a hug.

She hugs him back. “Hey, how are you?” she asks, her arms around his neck, her eyes shut as she presses her face to his shoulder.

“Good. I’m good. But I miss you,” he says, upfront and honest.

She pulls back and smiles up at him. “You do?”

He tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. “Of course, I do. It’s been too long since I could see you and hug you.”

Her expression softens, as if he just said something incredibly sweet and meaningful. She nods. “It has.”

“Hi, Christopher.”

I turn toward Tucker. “Hi.” I extend my hand. “Good to see you.”

“Yeah, you too.”

“We were talking about Finley and I remembered hearing her telling Kyle at the office that you were coming here tonight. Hope you don’t mind.”

Actually, I don’t care if he minds. We’re going to make it so he’shappyabout this. Eventually.

He shakes his head, glancing at Evan and Finley chatting. She’s still smiling at Evan like they’ve been apart for a year and she’s completely enamored.

“Of course not,” Tucker says. “But this isn’t a random run-in, huh?”

I shake my head. “No. I’m not really an ax-throwing kind of guy. But this is where Finley is, so this is where we came.”

Tucker lifts a brow. “Youhadto see her tonight? Right now?”

“Yes.” I’m not going to make excuses or pretend this is anything other than what it is. He needs to understand what’s going on here. The sooner he understands that he’s not the only one who’s crazy about Finley, the better.

“No call? No text? Just decided to show up?” he goes on.

“Yeah. We wanted toseeher, not just talk or text with her.”

Tucker finally blows out a breath. “I see.”

“Do you?”

“Evan still has feelings for her.”

“Yes.”

“Even though he’s with you?”

“Yes.”

“And you’re cool with that?”

“Very.” I tuck my hands in my pockets, watching him. Waiting for him to connectallthe dots.

Tucker nods. “Because you have feelings for her too.”

“Yes.”

“I see.” He shoves a hand through his hair. “Didn’t realize I had competition. I thought she and Evan were over.”

“They’re not,” I say simply. But I have to add, “But you don’t have competition.”
