“Cuz, I’m sorry.” Tyron said, giving me a remorseful look. “I’ll clean this up. Just make sure she’s good.”
“One minute,” Gunner said moving closer to the two dead bodies and putting a bullet between both of their eyes. “We don’t need any repeat of this nigga.”
“That’s what I said. I made sure to hold the pillow over your girlfriend's face until I was sure she stopped breathing, and I definitely severed Taye’s windpipe and arteries this time.” I told him.
“Bruh, I’m so glad she family. Could you imagine pissing her off.” Aren said, walking out of the room laughing.
“You family, we always coming hard behind you. The moment Char called you family that’s what you became.” Alestar said.
“Come on, let’s get you home. You can tell us what happened later, and we’ll fill you in on our part,” Gunner said, guiding me out the door behind Aren who was still laughing.
Chapter 23
Gunner
Pepper’s cousin turned out to be a real ass nigga, he had his people dispose of the bodies and torch the house. If it wasn’t for him, we could still have been looking for Pepper. He came through for his cousin in the end. And I couldn’t do anything but respect him for keeping his word. We were currently on our way back to Brookview aboard the jet, Alestar was texting on his phone and Aren was slumped in his chair next to him. We had given Aren’s scary ass a Xanax to knock him out for the short trip, old dramatic ass nigga. I sat back in my seat holding tightly to my lil baby as she relaxed comfortably in my lap. Alestar had sent a text to Char and Ma that we were on our way back. They were happy that we got Pepper back, but they were pissed that she left without talking to anyone. I would let her face their wrath at home. For now, I was going to love on her as much as I could right now.
“Don’t you ever do no shit like that again lil baby. I thought I had fucking lost you,” I said voice cracking as I held her tight. “I love you, damn. What a nigga got to do for you to get that shit through your thick ass head. I got you. It’s my job to protect my family, and you are part of my family. I know you can protect yourself and you have Nyx, but I need you to know you have metoo.” I declared kissing her on her forehead. “If we’re going to do this, we have to trust each other. I have to trust that you will stay and not run from me, and you have to trust that I will take care of your heart and protect you.”
“I love you too, but I didn’t want you getting involved in my drama, he was dangerous. He said he threatened your life, and I just could let that happen.”
“Just because you don’t see me in the streets, doesn’t mean I’m not going to stand ten toes behind the people I love. I’ll kill a nigga whole bloodline about mine. Don’t let my college degree and lifestyle fool you, I’m as unhinged as all those book boyfriends in those urban fictions you like to read. But unlike them I do my best not to show it. I don’t know what I would have done if something had happened to you.” I said kissing her again. “You know Ma and Char are going to be on your ass when you get home right?”
“I’m not sorry for killing them but I am sorry for making you worry. I should have trusted that you would understand and help me.”
“As long as you know your ass is in trouble when you get home." I told her with a smirk.
“Really, baby, I said I was sorry though.” She pouted with her lips poked out, clearly manipulating me.
“I don’t give a fuck about that cute ass face, you made us have to get on the jet with this scary ass nigga, so yeah, you’re getting punished.”
“I won’t do it again. Let me make it up to you daddy.” She purred.
“Nah that pussy on punishment too. Take your hot ass to sleep.” I chuckled at her. She grumbled but got comfortable and drifted off shortly, holding my close like she was worried I might leave her.
Chapter 24
Pepper
Four weeks had passed since I killed Missy and Taye and things had finally gotten back to normal back in Brookview. I went back to school for the first time last week. Char had explained my situation to my professors telling them that I had a family emergency and since Char took such good notes it hadn’t taken me long to get caught up on the things I had missed. I found out that Tyron had been seeing Taye’s wife for a while and they had a one-year-old son. Come to find out she was the one who told him where the beach house that Taye was keeping me was located. We had been working on our relationship now that his brother was really dead this time.
Char and Ma were mad as hell when I got home, but they were happy that I made it back safely. Ma threatened to whoop my ass if I did anything like that again. Gunner was being an asshole and still had me on pussy punishment. He wasn’t playing fair refusing to fuck me; he even called me to remind me that I had better not be playing with his pussy either. That man was crazy, but I loved his crazy ass, and he loved me.
The only thing that had changed was Nyx. Since the moment Gunner showed up at the house, she had been quiet. No humming or buzzing. It was odd to not have her in my headagain, but his time seemed different. I had called to her a few times, even doing it in front of Gunner. He said I shouldn’t worry, and she’ll speak when she’s ready. He’s probably right, we had been drugged for days by Taye. That had to be hard on her and she didn’t leave me then so I knew it couldn’t be that.
I was currently standing in my bathroom at Ma’s house staring in the mirror staring at my reflection. I would often do this when I wanted to speak to Nyx. I started to walk away after not getting a response but then I heard her.
“Why the fuck you standing in the mirror staring at yourself?”
I let out a deep sigh. “I’ve been calling you.”
“I could have sworn that I told you that I was always around. Because I know I remember our talk before we murdered two people.”
“I know that but…I’m not sure I can do this without you.”
“You can do anything. You survived Taye without me. The life you have now isn’t anything you need to survive. You have everything that I always wanted for us. You don’t need me to protect you anymore. That’s what Gunner is for. He’ll be there for you when you need someone. Now get your special ass out of the bathroom and go get our man. I love you, Pepper.”
And then she was gone.
