Killian looked behind him, then back at me.
“He can’t see you. At all. He has prosthetic eyes,” I reminded him.
Killian snorted. “Yeah, but he can hear really well. He’s like goddamn Daredevil.”
“That’s the one! I was thinking Wolf Man—” Istarted to say, but Killian’s tongue cut me off as it dipped into my mouth. Fuck, it was so hot. So soft.
His tenderness was almost overwhelming, and all I wanted was to send Jonah home so I could have more of this.
“After,” Killian murmured as he broke away.
“Digging around in my mind again?”
He touched the side of my face, his palm cradling my cheek. “You’re just easy to read. You wear everything on your sleeve.”
“Sucks for me,” I grunted.
He laughed and kissed me again. “Maybe, but I like it. You’re the first person who hasn’t kept me guessing. This is the first time in so long I haven’t tiptoed around the house, terrified that I’m going to say one wrong thing and have to pay for it all night.”
I hated that he’d been through that. I hated that there was nothing I could do to change it.
“Dinner,” Jonah said, walking in with his hand on the wall. “Quit fucking making out, or I’m going to stay all night and cockblock you both until your balls are royal blue.”
“I believe him,” Killian said, stepping back.
Jonah shook his head. “God help me, but I really am starting to like him more than you.”
I knew the feeling. I liked Killian a lot more than I liked myself too.
CHAPTER
NINETEEN
FORD
Tell him.Tell him.I really had to tell him.
Taking a breath, I stared at Tucker, who was scrolling on his phone. He was manspreading all over my couch as Boden cooked in the kitchen. My apartment felt odd now with them in it. Boden wanted to start family dinner nights or whatever the fuck this was.
Something that would have had me jumping for literal joy just weeks ago. Except now, I wanted them out. Now, I was profoundly aware of the person hiding in the back room, waiting for everyone to leave.
The quickest way to get this over with would be to open my mouth and tell him I had his twin brother hiding under my sheets. Or wherever Killian was hiding. He was probably lounging on the bed, trying not to listen in on our conversation because he was a good guy like that.
So I took a breath…
And then the words died on the tip of my tongue. Fuck, I couldn’t do this. I wasn’t ready. I wanted moretime. I was being an absolutely selfish prick about this whole thing, but the truth had been bashing me in the face for a while now.
I was falling for Killian.
No. Not just that. I was fucking falling inlovewith him.
“So.”
I jumped half a foot at the sound of Tucker’s voice and realized I’d been staring at the hallway. “Sew buttons.”
“Fuck off,” Tucker said, elbowing me. He shifted, and I realized that he had Athena curled into his hip. She was settling in nicely—spending her days pissing Nugget the fuck off and competing with each of us for attention.
It was going to be hard to part with her. The absolute and complete joy she was going to bring Jonah was the only thing softening that blow.
